Wildcat,

For more information on this addiction you can visit our sister site StopSmokingCenter.net .  This will have the knowledge you seek.

For now....

When you quit, your body will go through withdrawasl and symptoms may or may not arise.  Each body will react differently, so the long term withdrawal symptoms will be different from individual to individual.. When quitting the nicotine will be leave your body within a week or so, however the journey of quitting is far more complex than this.  This addiction is habitual as well and it takes time to dis-associate the act of smoking with what you normally did at the time.

This can be a real roller coaster ride for the mind and body.  The fact that your body is getting healthier doesn't attract the mind's fancy.  You will notice the changes and benefits, but not overnight.  It is a long process and a lifestyle change and a great choice as well!

I have a stupid question ... Cigarettes have a bunch of chemicals in them and nicotine is the most addictive of them ... but the rest affect the body as well

SO

What is the long-term withdrawl symptomes of quitting the smokes?
**physical; heart, lungs, brain,
**systems; metabolism, thought-processes (brain chemical balances),

What is the difference in the average healthy adult and those of us who are "more atuned" to changes in our body due to past illnesses?

Uh oh,  I have been thinking again, I am in one of those obsessive moods at the moment.  I have just figure out that yes, I have been depressed for the majority of my life, my depression worsened when my hubby got injured and the downward spiral of events that occured after that.
Due to lack of finances and my doctor pushing the "healthier lifestyle, different food, more exercise, quitting smoking etc." I quit smoking, attempted to exercise more and change my diet.  I made the majority of changes over time and thought that the worsening depression was just my life situation.  When I quit smoking, 292 days ago, I did so because I didn't have any money to buy another pack of smokes to make it through the weekend (yes, I only smoked 10 - 15 smokes a day, but they were good).  I enjoyed going outside for a cigarette (+40 or -40 it's all good), I enjoyed going for a walk (rollerblade or bike ride) and having a cigarette, I enjoyed going for a drive and having a cigarette, I enjoyed gardening and having a cigarette, I enjoyed talking on the phone and having a cigarette outside, I enjoyed going out for drinks and dancing and smoking.  I see a pattern here, things that I enjoyed doing at one time were enjoyed with a cigarette.
Now when I attempt to do these things that I once enjoyed, I get angry, exhausted, more depressed.  I believe it has something to do with not smoking, I have given up on the diet and exercise with a modicum of relief from the depression.  To think about it, I led a "healthier life" when I was smoking, I ate more fruits and vegetables (now I crave anything greasy, salty or sweet), when I smoked, I exercised more, because I had to go outside to do this.  Now I hide in my house and cannot find any enjoyment with extra physical activity.
Don't get me wrong, I now know that I can handle anything without having that cigarette, but it doesn't make me feel any better physically or emotionally not having that cigarette. Somedays, I just wish........
I know shut up and just put up.  Thanks for listening

Yep, they are migraines, I can't take any over the counter meds for them as they do nothing for me now.  I take minimum T-4's and have even had oxycodone depending on the severity.  It's usually take 2 t-4's crawl into bed, cover up to the neck and go to sleep till it is gone or it wakes me up again.
Well gonna get back to work now.
Have a great day.

Woke up @ 1:30 a.m. with what felt like a spike being driven into my skull, so I took a couple of painkillers and went back to bed, I didn't get up till about 10:00 am.  I called in to work to let them know and I got to work @ 10:30.  Headache is still there but not so bad I can at least function moderately.
I may just put my head down for a short rest in between clients, I don't know my thoughts are jumbled and it hurts to think.

Well my work day is almost done, I am officially pooped for the week, (please see the list).  I am going to go home, make supper, maybe eat and then go to bed.
Husband's truck works now, just a loose battery cable, starter is on the bottom of the firewall so really hard and awkward to get at.
Have a great night everyone.

Hey everybody,
Just an update, stupid van decided to completely crap out last night, made home and parked it then nothing.  Pick n Pull was closed @ 5:00 so I had to wait till this morning.  My neighbour (sweetheart that he is) lent me his Mustang so I could go and pick up the alternator.  He saw me pulling the old one out and asked if he cold lend me his Jeep or Mustang, I refused at first, and then I thought heck no-one offers to help very often so what the heck and I called him up and took his offer.  Got to Pick n Pull @ 9:30 and there was one of my van with my size engine and alternator in it (whew grabbed it). Lots of guys looking at me and offering to help (even though my son 6'5" was with me), I am hot, hot, hot, Went and got it tested Part Sources computer was down and Canadian Tire took forever to find the right plug for it yay it worked.  Took it home and my son and I put the alternator in, wedging it this way and that way, tightening this and that and voila, I am at work now, got here around 12:30, van is purring like a kitten and doesn't seem to be acting dumb.
I am Ms. Mechanic now, so hopefully I can get my hubby's truck a-working this weekend (it should be fairly simple starter or battery cable).
Everyone have a great weekend and enjoy your friends and family this weekend.
Love ya'll
