Hi! Just wanted to log in (after a few years!) to thank you for your reply. I am so happy that asking for help on here several years ago can still be useful to others today. I've improved and grown so much since then..
I know this discussion is really old but it helped me to read and see how hard it is for people to get out of the bed and make it to work on time. Its such a huge effort for me to drag my body up and get it moving that it sometimes makes me cry because it seems like I just cant make it. I only work 3 days a week now so I made up a "wakey time" poster that itemizes my morning routine so that I can push through the list and hopefully NOT just lay back down in the bed until 11 am. Again - just glad to read that others are struggling to get out of bed in the mornings too :)
I have found the same thing. I wake up every day at 10:00am. But I do set my alarm on my phone so it plays Katy Perry's, "Firework," when I wake up. Much more pleasant than an alarm! But it is extremely tough when I have problems falling asleep. But good for you for being able to do this!
just wanted to report that I tried my new alarm clock this morning. I set it up to a bad music station.. and woke up to a bad political talk show with.. bad political views. ;)
I will admit that it's the fastest I've been out of bed. Quickly changed the station to something decent, and the rest of the morning went well!
As for me I've been slacking and getting up slightly later since last week. However is kind of 'justified' because I have been working out hard and I am really sore in the mornings!! But I really want to be able to do both, work out and wake up early.
I'm also a huge supporter of waking up around 9-ish during the weekends!! Is a good time to wake up. Not too early, not too late.
Thanks for your post, it reminds me that I need to work on this myself :)
Thank you everyone for your suggestions - I've been mixing and matching your suggestions over the past few days.
First, I have to say the past few days have been gorgeous, weather-wise. Over the weekend, I wake up without an alarm.. and on both Sat/Sun, I was out of bed before 9am!!! (contrast that to 12pm last weekend) Amazing. I think it was a mixture of sleeping earlier (10-11pm) AND that the sun was shining brightly earlier in the morning. When I first heard of "seasonal affective disorder", I thought it was a joke, but now you can call me a firm believer.
I'm also going to give bad music another try - I bought a clock radio from Amazon last week. I used to use the alarm on my cell phone, but it's time to move away from that tactic.
Similar to the sunlight thing, trying a light sounds like a great idea. I'm pretty sure there's one at home somewhere..
Thanks everybody! Waking up earlier over the weekend meant that I had more weekend to enjoy! Definitely a confidence boost. Now to tackle work!
I have put a bright light on a timer that goes on 1 hour before I wake. So my brain starts to get out of its med fuzz before the alarm goes off. My alarm is at the other end of the room. I have to move to get the snooze so by the time I get to it I am up. The snooze is the devil! So I try not to use it - either I am up or I am not.
I try to program myself as I fall asleep, In the morning I have to wake at 5am. In the morning I have to wake at 5 am. In the mornimg... it helps...
The heating goes off 45 minutes before I get out of bed to a toasty 23degreesC. (till I leave an hour later) so I do not want to stay in bed.
So at bed time the bedroom is a nice nest and at wake time it is an uncomfortable place. Many time I would rather be there anyways but since I am up might as-well-get-at-em!
