Hello from another person looking for relief from depression

Glad to hear you had a nice day. A few hours in a garden bed sounds lovely! It also sounds like a great place to be mindful. To be mindful in your garden, pay attention to how the dirt feels in your hands; how the flowers and earth smell; how the sun feels, how the colours look and most importantly how do you feel in your body. Do you feel warmth and ease in your chest? Are you able to breathe deeply. Really "sit in" moment with your senses. Don't judge or analyse what you sense just experience it. This is mindfulness. You can experience it for a few moments or day or practice longer sessions. Youtube is a great resource for mindfulness meditation walkthroughs.

How are you feeling today?

Had a very good day today, I sure needed one. Sunny and warm weather inspired me to work on flowerbeds then played with horse for awhile. Felt very pleased with my accomplishments. For my pleasant activity, I have a long soak in the tub. Sure am tired now, have not done that much physical activity in the past couple of weeks.

What is mindfulness? Sleep is usually easy for me. Diet has been less healthy this last two weeks. I know that I have been trying to eat to make myself feel better. Usually try to have lots of fruits and vegetable. Lately have gone for the snack machine at work, hoping that a chocolate fix will add some energy. For relaxing I play card games on the computer and listen to music.

That sounds like a great goal Galianna!

It also sounds like you might benefit from adding some relaxation techniques into your day. Breathing exercises and mindfulness are two effective ways to relax. How else do you think you could make time to relax each day?

It sounds like spending time with your horse will give you some exercise which is great. Also, be sure you are eating and sleeping well. How is your diet and sleep schedule looking these days?

Hi galianna,
Meds help a lot but it is also important to have some healthy life habits, and CBT could help with that. Just hang on and do not hesitate to ask for help when in need.

Take care!

I have been following this program for 10 days. While I am finding this an interesting exercise, I am still counting the days till a new Med the Doctor has provided kicks in. I am not good at reaching out to others for help. I like to think of myself as a high functioning depressed person. I go to work, I try to be cheerful, I do interesting things. BUT inside I am working hard to get everything I expect of myself accomplished. I probably just think I am hiding it well. Perhaps others know and I am just kidding myself. Began to be very anxious about 6 weeks ago. Having a harder time coping with a sometimes stressful job. My depression gives me the feeling that I am coming down with the flu, yet I know I am not. Very tired feeling, shaky and lots of heart burn. I learned this spring that the noise of all the other people in my work space, can really stress me out. I thought the discovery of the cause would help me control the feelings. Had high hopes of the work place becoming quieter when the temporary university students went back to class. Yes there was a quiet week, then the room filled up again with full timers who had been pushed out of my area by the student project. Now I believe it is louder than it was before. I think the goals worksheet might help me out, as I choose the goal of spending more time with my horse. I had not spent much time with the horse over the past year. Mostly I just took care of her needs of food, shelter and making sure she was healthy. So one of my goals is to just have some fun with the horse. No expectations of accomplishing any great training goals. Just to have play time. Wish me luck.
