Don't put yourself through the misery. Commit to not purchasing any cigarettes and asking for a cigarette. That right there eliminates a lot of stress. But you have to commit to doing that. Best of luck! You're better than the addiction. T.
It really helps me to come here and read posts to motivate me to quit again.
I hope you find the motivation to quit for good. Be good to yourself. Promise yourself you will not smoke and then commit to it. Commitment is what transforms a promise into reality. I like that ... "I'm in charge, not the cigarettes". It is a great feeling, isn't it. I am really happy for you & the day you had ... may you have many more days like it. Keep up that positive determination. From what I have read it takes the average smoker 4 quits for it to stick. Some may quit on their 1st time, some on their 15th time. Just keep on trying. One of your quits will stick, hopefully this one. Hi Eggogo, Everybody experiences set-backs and relapses. Quitting is a big challenge. Adopting a mantra is great idea! Try coming up with an emergency plan to cope with those nasty temptations. They're hard to resist but maybe if you carried a list of the reasons why you've quit smoking or a list of your accomplishments thus far, maybe it'll be enough to deter your "other self". Glad to see you're committed to quitting. Don't give up, you'll get it right. You've already spent another day smoke-free. Danielle ___________________________ The SSC Support Team

Hi Eggogo, I'm wondering if you have tried to use non smoking aids at all, if you read posts here, a lot of folks have had success with patches, zyban, etc. Of course, the strong will and determination (and attitude) are 80% of your quit. Maybe a boost is just the ticket for you. Hangin in Not Givin In, CobenFan (Christine)

HI eggogo - That 'weired self' is the addiction. We can have more faces that Eve when it comes down to this terrible addiction. Sybil comes to mind here :( Try to explore what keeps taking you back to the addiction. What are your plans/coping skills for the WORST CRAVE there is, what do you do, how do you say NO to smoking during those times? And most importantly, what makes this Quit different than the others. THIS ONE has to be different, make it different :) We are all here for you, you walk the Quit walk and we are right behind you cheering you each step of the way! Good questions here. What makes this quit different? I can't think of anything, really. It seems the same. I'm not even as optimistic as I was the last time. I quit on my birthday and stayed quit for almost 4 weeks. I've done this so many times it's hard to believe any more that I'll stick to it this time. I say 'this is it' every time and I really mean it and I'm always so proud of my self for quitting and I always feel really good about quitting. I just don't want to be quitting all the time. I want to quit once and for all. My triggers? Sometimes there are none, I just walk out side and ask the next person for a cigarette. Sometimes it's being around 'some' people that smoke, going to a party, traveling. Once it was seeing a cigarette in an ashtray and no one was around, so I smoked it, hiding. I forgot I didn't want to smoke any more. I think I just need to say my mantra all the time. "I don't want to smoke anymore. I'm no longer a smoker" Ive tried everything over the years. Zyban, hypnoses, acupuncture, nicotine gum, seminars. My mom died of lung cancer last year, she was only 67. That should really scare me! And it really does, believe it or not. The easiest way for me to quit is to be here, reading posts here. I think if I stay here for a few months and not get so cocky because Ive managed to quit again, I might get enough time under my belt to stay away for good. Its worth the try, havent done that one yet.
