I am feeling blah today. I'm tired and pretty much feel like I don't give a shat. I ended up apologizing to my hubby because I just didn't feel like getting into it. It is just not worth it to me ... to get all emotional. I did however tell him that I thought the way he reacted was childish and selfish ... but that I was sorry he felt that way and that I didn't 'mean' to hurt his feelings. All of this just seems so petty and ridiculous to me. He and I quit at the same time ... I am trying to be kind with him as well as kind/gentle with myself ... but it isn't easy all the time that is for sure. Blah, blah, blah ... same shat different day ... So it's been a month ... finally went out ... around smokers My husband and I ... 1 month ... no smoking Did we smoke? Nope. Was I tempted to? Yes. But I did not smoke. On the way home ... baby this, baby that ... we get home ... take the babysitter home ... oldest home after 3 days away at camp ... hi son how are you ... did you have fun ... what did you do ... oh you feel like you have a fever ... let's see ... yep a fever ... let's find medicine ... husband is back home from taking baby sitter home ... now 5 year old is awake ... get oldest to bed ... get 5 year old back to bed ... now husband says that he has been put on the back burner ... we left the club an hour and twenty minutes ago. What the heck am I ... superwoman? Do I want to smoke? No. Do I want to do something to relieve my frustration .. damn straight I do. Breakingfree.... Guess what. You had days like this even when you smoked. Isn't it great that now you don't rely on the crutch to get through these moments. Life still happens when we quit. The kids still get sick, the nice romantic evening still turns into crap, the responsibilities are still there and you still don't smoke. Don't let these times get you down. Protect your quit. You are making great progress. Congratulations. You are doing a great job of being a non-smoker. Breaking Free, It sounds like you've hit the 30 day pit... and you've got a lot going on in your life right now. I don't blame you for being frustrated, but will smoking help? No. Will it cause kids to stay awake and husbands to be more sensitive? Unfortunately, no. I'm sure you won't smoke and I know that this was just a vent, so go ahead and vent all you want... Hey Breaking Free - How's it going? Feeling any better? I really don't have much to offer. Ms Swimmer is correct that this is par for the course at 30 days. It's like the hype wears off, the quit isn't as exciting or new but it's more becoming who you are not what you are doing. Another thought popped up as I read your post. As smokers we addressed our frustration with an action- smoking. Non-smokers and ex-smokers address their frustration in different ways, the majority of which are emotional. Of course there are healthy physical outlets for frustration - exercise, prayer or meditation, writing, etc. But as you quit it's like the bottom drops out and you have to re-invent the ways you deal with things you've dealt with all your life. When kids are young they are not equipped with emotional restraints and haven't yet learned how to deal with overwhelming things. So they deal with things physically because they can and it is easier. They get mad - they hit. They get frustrated - they cry or hit or bite or some other physical action. You can see the parallel. Smokers smoke. But as we grow into our new selves we learn new ways just as kids do to ride out our emotions and not stuff them down. It's just awkward and uncomfortable in the beginning. So, think of what you would offer to your kids when they are upset - you'll have to be kind and patient with yourself (and hubby) as you grow and learn and re-learn and un-learn. It's humbling but worth it. Breaking, I know this is tough. Take a day to yourself, yes I said day! Take the time to tell your hubby you need you time. Pamper yourself and really relax. This will help you stay refreshed :) Take the time to set a goal and work towards it, when you get there give yourself a reward!
