Yes it is a stupid idea! firstly what is there to be gained from smoking again, the answer is nothing but being smelly and unhealthy. Secondly you will have to go through it all over again at some point. To have gone 228 days is a monumental achievement, you would kick yourself forever if you cracked up now. DO NOT DO IT!! I quit for a year many year ago.. I have to agree that your idea is stupid ;-) Do you know how much I have cursed myself over the last 40 some odd days for having quit for a year, started again, find myself wondering if my lungs will ever recover, and wondering why the heck I started smoking again after I had quit for a year? Don't start again, because eventually you'll have to quit again. You don't want to go through this again and you certainly don't want to be cussing yourself out through the painful parts like me ;-P. Smoking sucks, addiction to "bad" things sucks, get addicted to exercise or grapes or something, but don't smoke again. You should know that I'm kidding you a bit to get you to smile... hopefully. But really, you WILL eventually have to confront this problem again, and it is easier to confront the problems that are making you want to smoke than to have to quit smoking AND confront the problems that are making you want to smoke. Hang in there, be proud of your quit, spend time here, it helps. OK, the lecture is over! CELIA...THINK LONG AND HARD ABOUT WHERE YOP WANT YOUR LIFE TO GO.. Take it from me, After a four year quit, I threw caution to the wind.. Stilled that logical voice inside of me and let nicodemon rear his ugly head. I became a smoker again. I told myself that quitting again would be easier this time around as I had already done it. So...I unheeded that tiny voice that said don't be stupid.. Before long, I was running out in the cold to have my fix. All the while saying .......How did this happen? Will the truth is...I took 1 puff....then another and another.... Now' I have quit again? Is it any easier? Heck no!! If any thing it is harder. Do not let this be you.. You have already come so far. Try to remember why you wanted to quit in the first place, because I garentee that you will want to quit again and it doesn't get any easier. Only distance between u and that last puff will ensure your freedom. Celia, That is a very stupid idea!!! You know it is , that is why you came here. You are not a stupid lady right? Right!!! Now, look at your stats., look at mine. You are an inspiration. Remember the time when you would have given anything to have 228 days under your belt? I know you don't want to be looking at a stat of 0. It's just not worth it. Keep Strong. Hi Celia. A lot of people will tell you that you've lost your mind for having these thoughts. Our quit meters are in about the same location and I just wanted to say that I think of smoking again on occassion as well. The "why" I have these thoughts vary between loneliness, frustration, anger, happiness, and any other emotion you can think of. Smoking has accompanied everything we have done in life for years. Now here we are learning to go through life and deal with emotions and situations without smoking. It's not easy. You said no one knows you as a smoker so there is no one to pat you on the back and tell you what a great job you have done. Even if you were around people who knew you smoked, they would have quit telling you what a good job you have done long ago. It really doesn't seem to matter. That may be part of the reason that people say you have to quit for yourself. Celia, there is a stat forum here. Go post in it and you will get praise because you have accomplished a lot with your 228 days and you deserve to be patted on the back. If I might suggest, read some of the posts of those with less than 60 days that are struggling with their quits. Read the frustration of those that start over and over again searching for the key to freedom. Read some stories of those dieing a slow death because they "cannot" stop. Keep reading until you recognize exactly how much those 228 days of freedom mean. Smoking isn't going to change any situation, make anything better, or make dealing with anything easier. There are two things that smoking will do for you. 1. Make you wish you were still quit. 2. Kill you. At 228 days Celia it is still all about "choice". Please choose wisely. Celia, I've had some stupid ideas to in relation to going back to smoking. IT'S THE JUNKIE IN YOU TALKING!!!!!!!!!!! That's not you! I'm sure you are a very smart woman... you quit smoking, right? So you must be VERY smart. So, an intelligent woman like you would NOT want to go back top smoking after 1 long, hard-earned year of not smoking. That is the junkie talking. Do you remember what it was like when you first quit? Do you remember thinking about smoking constantly and always having cravings? Yet, you went through that because at the time, you wanted to be a non-smoker more than you wanted to be a smoker... otherwise, you would have given up completely when it was REALLY rough. But, you stuck it out because you wanted to be a non-smoker. Guess what? If you go back to smoking, you will see why you wanted to be a non-smoker! And you will kick yourself for ever lighting that first cigarette!!! You are free Celia!!! After 228 days, I bet you probably are pretty comfortable with your quit most of the time. Why on earth would you want to give that freedom up to go back to a life of slavery? A life of wasting your hard earned money! A life of stinking! A life of coughing! A life of living in constant fear of getting cancer or some other life-threatening illness! Embrace your freedom Celia!!! When you quit, did you write down your reasons for quitting? Did you go through this program here? If so, I suggest you go back and look at your reasons for quitting and everything you wrote when you first quit. Celia, there are many smokers who WISH they had 228 days free from tobacco. Don't make yourself one of them. Crave the Quit! Sorry about that, not sure what happened... Well, i came back to the site tonight after months of absences - you see, i had come to a point where most of the time i was hardly thinking about smoking at all. but then my boyfriend kept going back to smoking as his job is so stressful and i have just said i would rather he smokes outside at home rather than trying only to smoke at work. So i have been having the stupid idea that once i have quit for a year i will start again. Just so i can say to people, "Well, i tried being a non-smoker for a whole year and was miserable so i started again" As i am in a new country, no-one here knew me as a smoker so no-one is telling me i'm great for staying quit and i wish they would... Duffis' post was so inspirational to me and thankyou. Please keep in touch everyone, it would really help to put this stupid idea out of my head.
