Thinking about slipping? aka... 6 month ramble

You are so on target to how I am feeling right now. I quit for three months cold turkey. I barely got through the first three days of nicotine withdrawals, but I did. Then like some of you have said, I thought about cig day and night, but I didn't give in then either. I guess what happened was I thot I would test myself. I'll just take one little puff. Bad idea... It's been two years since I went back, and I'm dreading going through that again, but.... If this helps anybody out there, let me say this. When I think I could be smoke free today if I had just kept going. I wish with all my heart that I had just kept going......

Thanks for the bump BFS! Elisa, Don't be too hard on yourself. I know it is dissapointing but you can do this and win your freedom for life! I'm sure you've learnt from your relapse and will take this lesson with you in your next quit. Danielle _______________________ The SSC Support Team

BFS - thanks for bumping this post. I can really relate to everything you said. Imagine that your 1 day slip snowballed like mine did into almost a year - after a 2-1/2 year quit (over 900 days) I blew it too - but for a much longer time. Had I not messed up, I would be at around 1,300 days right now, instead of just 70-something! Blech! You really hit the nail on the head in describing how quitting after a relapse seems even harder than the initial quit. I know the pain, guilt and extreme shame all too well. I honestly felt that making the decision to stop the 2nd time was considerably harder than the 1st - I guess because I knew it had to be for the LAST time. Reality hit when I found this site, 1 day after I quit - when I saw the acronym N.O.P.E - I felt so depressed, and angry, and frustrated. I knew it was true - for real! A rude awakening, but oh, so necessary. I know in my guts I don't have yet another quit left in me - so this one HAS to stick! Thanks again for your post, and for bumping it for the benefit of newer members. sushik My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/31/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 78 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,970 Amount Saved: $702 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 16 Mins: 3 Seconds: 12

There has been a lot of slipping on the site recently. I thought that this would be a good bump for anyone thinking about slipping. Please don't! It's not worth it! If you already have, then don't let my story be yours. Quit again and don't look back! Crave the Quit! Pam I just read your post. It could not have happened at a better time. I am at 5 1/2 months, and sometimes all I want is a cigarette. I know that it is all mental, not a physical need. They are more a desire than a real craving. Reading your post made me realize that just having one is not going to work. It will just start a precident, and then I will not just have one but have two and then three. It will be best if I just keep saying NO and get back to doing something else. I do wish that these ongoing desires for a cigarette would stop. Thanks to you I will keep at putting the desires aside and continue on with my no somoking. Thanks again.
