So I was invited to an outing with a group of friends. This set of friends and I had been to this little bar called Juggling Gypsy on a handful of occasions. This bar is also a HOOKAH bar! And that's something we do, my smoking and non-smoking friends alike, we will all share a hookah with flavored tobacco. Luckily, the other night we did not go b/c everyone couldn't make it, so we rescheduled. But, my ? is: Are Hookahs off limits to me now? I'm torn, it's not a big deal, but I gave it some thought and on one side I'm like, yeah, I shouldn't anymore, I don't want to miss smoking cigs, the other side of it, I'm like it's a social activity that I will do once in a blue moon - and it's not like I will go out and start smoking again, or will I? Thoughts, thoughts, please!

Igray, First of all, what's a Hookah?!?! I've never heard of that and I'm curious as to what it is, but I don't think it really matters because I saw you say "flavored tobacco" and that pretty much answers your question right there. Tobacco is tobacco is tobacco. ALL tobacco contains nicotine and nicotine is what we are all addicted to and smoking is smoking... whether it's a cigarette, a cigar or a "hookah," it's still smoking tobacco, so in my book, that's a big NO! I think this would be a very difficult challenge for you to get through, so I suggest not going. Even if it's "a social activity that I will do once in a blue moon" it's still smoking. Perhaps when you're stronger, you can go and not smoke, but right now, I think it's best that you take a pass. Crave the Quit! Cybrduke's right, Igray. Inhaling the fumes from burning tobacco is smoking, nothing more, nothing less. The delivery system doesn't matter. Cig, pipe, hookah, or dribbling it onto a hot stove burner, it's all smoking. Hookahs are off limits. You cannot be a social smoker. Be aware the junkie is alive and well in your head. Isn't this a repeat post? Like I said before - you either smoke or you don't. I think sittin there puffing on a bowl of tobacco is, ah, lemme see, what's the word.... SMOKING! You have a choice to make I guess. Going for the company and not smoking is different than going for the company and smoking. If it were me, I'd stay away from that bar and call that something I used to do. Just my humble opinion. Igray, You may want to stay away from these temptations for awhile. Use you coping mechanisms and you will fair well. Perhaps staring a new tradition for everyone will help in your attempt to keep quit. Everyone loves an organizer! Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
