I Quit,
I know how you feel. I used to feel the same way and I wondered if I'd EVER begin to hate it. This is what Shevie asked me on 8/29/05 and here's my response:
Shevie: Do you really dislike smoking, or are you just going with the current flow of popular sentiment?
Me: Yes, I LIKE to smoke. And I am trying VERY hard to hate it, but I can't. The smell of a freshly lit cigarette... ahhhhhhhh! And the worst part is that when a craving or smoking thought comes by, I relish in it, and think about all of the good times that I had smoking and about how nice it would be to relax with a cigarette with friends again. Now, I have been trying REALLY hard to quit doing that because I KNOW that's the WORST thing I can do, and I've been getting better with it, but I still do it.
Do I still feel this way? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! When I walk by smokers, I have to hold my breath! I don't casually stroll by and take my time, I run like hell because I don't want to gag. I don't even like the thought of smoking now... I mean really, I don't. It's almost as if I don't even understand why I liked it to begin with. I mean, I understand I liked it because I was and still am an addict and can't have another puff ever, but I don't see the draw anymore... it's just a disgusting addiction.
When did this happen? I'm not sure, but I definitely changed from LOVING the smell of smoke and the thought of smoking myself to being absolutely disgusted by it. So yes, it's possible for you to change and get to a point where you don't like the smell, but I don't know when or if that will happen for you.
Crave the Quit!
