It can come out of other people's mouths as well as our own. You have already started to take the remedy, it involves posting before slipping, reading really positive threads like the one that you have kindly linked for us and reading positive replies to your posts. Neek Boredom has set in on you. At first you were so excited about your quit and so were others. You came in here, you posted and read. Now it's been 14 days and you're thinking " NOW WHAT?". You do have a hole in your life that you filled with smoking. I know all about that as I use to say I just didn't know what to do with my hands or the extra time I seemed to have. I talked on the phone, I smoked, I went outside, I smoked, I ate a meal, afterwards I smoked, I got in my car, I smoked. Everything I did in my life would end up with me having a cigarette. Crazy, but thats how it was. You will find that after a bit all will settle down for you. Maybe you could come in here more and support someone new in their quit. When you encourage others you help yourself. Just don't think that smoking will somehow make you more interesting again. You are doing something great for yourself. I totally understand what you're going through. It's been 15 days for me (tooting my own horn for a moment) and although I don't really have any cravings, I do find that I'm missing something...probably the time I spent smoking. Now it's like, what do I do with myself? Not that I want to smoke, I DON'T...just needing something to fill that void. I keep thinking of projects to do and such but for some reason, I still find myself missing...what, I don't know! I don't miss the smelly, nastiness of smoking, just the act itself and the camaraderie between me and my smoking friends and family. I keep telling myself it will get better...guess I have to actually start believing it. And I guess I also have to stop thinking of myself as a "former smoker" and start thinking of myself as a "non-smoker". The "former" stuff really gets me down. "This too shall pass". N.O.P.E. Neek...you will find that people who still smoke or who have never smoked really have no idea what you are going through. When I first quit, everyone was saying....how many days now.... how are you and were being really supportive. However, that quickly faded. People seem to think that after a couple of weeks you are over all the ajustments that quitting needs and ready to be quit forever. I found that the people here were the only ones who understood and when it came to issues that I was having or difficult moments this is where I would come. We are here for you. You can be honest here about whatever you are going through. We understand because we have been there as well. You are doing a great job. Keep going. Congratulations on your 14 days. One day at a time Neek. Take some deep breaths. You have to keep everything in perspective. There is no overnight cure for smoking. It is a process that takes time. Keep taking it one step at a time and try not to let it overwhelm you. You are doing a great job. Get that I will not give up no matter what attitude and you will make it! BTW....there is no situation or stress that a cigarette will make better. None at all. Hey Neek. For the first two months of my quit I would only get gas through the pay at the pump method. Didn't trust myself to walk inside. I still don't get gas where I use to because that is where I use to get my smokes too. It's been over 6 months now. Congratulations! TheNeek, Congratulations on your decision to quit and welcome to the SSC. Quitting is about a lifestyle change. Friends you had (smokers), habits you developed, places you went, are all affected by this. Quitting is a new lease on life. As such you must learn how to fill the void left when you quit and you need to realize that what worked before, in terms of dealing with situations, will probably not work now. Co-workers and smoking friends are usually jealous, unsure, and generally upset when they lose one of their fellow nicotine addicts. They can't stop, so they tend to try and sabotoge a new quitters quit. Misery loves company and smokers are the most miserable of the bunch. The trick to your new, smoke free, life is not to let it stand out like a sore thumb. You will still do everything you did before, you will simply be doing it without smoking. Smoking killed time. Lots of time. Use that time now to be more productive in your life. Perhaps you can read more, get some books, read the paper, etc. A lot of new quitters do chew gum, but you're right, this can get old. I chewed on straws for a time.
