My husband and I have been quit since 1/5/06 and I am so very proud of both of us...moreso of him b/c I honestly didn't think he would stick to it. I really thought he was just trying to get me to quit b/c of my health. He will occasionally puff on black and mild cigars...is this ok or is this cheating? I need some honest feedback on this so that I can start nagging him if need be (hee hee)Just kidding...I really am curious about what is in a cigar that's not in a cigarette. What is the difference. Hi Quit or Die....gald to see that someone bumped the other recent post on cigars. I'm an expert on cigars, I've smoked thousands of them! And I'm ashamed of it! Your husband still smokes. There's no cheating involved.....he definately smokes and is still addicted to nicotine! Occasionally will turn into regularly as sure as night follows day. A friend of mine used to enjoy the odd cigar with a drink at the local pub. He was adamant that it was not a problem but we watched him go from one trip a week to every night. Then he had a triple bypass op. I was shocked to see him in his garden the other morning....and I am talking 8.00am. He had a lit cigar dangling from his mouth as he pushed a wheelbarrow across his front drive. Hope this helps Mad Englishman My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/8/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 47 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 334 Amount Saved: 235 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 23 Mins: 11 Seconds: 46

There isn't any difference between ciggies & cigars, smoke is smoke. And don't let the cigar smoker tell you he doesn't inhale, he full of it. QuitOrDie.... I have no idea what the difference is between what is in a cigar and a cigarette but my opinion is: Smoke is Smoke is Smoke is Smoke. N.O.P.E. means Not One Puff Ever.... I would say that means any form of smoking. Just my honest feedback! Hi QuitorDie...congratulations on your 18 days! Someone else asked me this a while back and I found some good information on it at a non-profit site about cancer. I'll quote just enough to give you a good idea of how cigars compare with cigarettes...
...a single large cigar can contain as much tobacco as an entire pack of cigarettes. The secondhand smoke it gives off and that others breathe in can fill a room for hours. Nicotine is the substance in tobacco that causes addiction. Most cigars have as much nicotine as several cigarettes. If cigar smokers inhale, nicotine is absorbed as rapidly as it is with cigarettes. For those who do not inhale, it is absorbed more slowly through the lining of the mouth. People who use smokeless tobacco absorb nicotine the same way. Both inhaled and non-inhaled nicotine are highly addictive. Cigar smoking increases your risk of death from several cancers, including cancer of the lung, oral cavity (lip, tongue, mouth, throat), esophagus (the tube connecting the mouth to the stomach), and larynx (voice box). If you inhale, cigar smoking appears to be linked to death from cancer of the pancreas and bladder, as well.
There's more out there to read...but I think just those few sentences alone would be enough for me :) Keep hangin' in there!
