The school aids at my sons' elementary school are "allowed" to smoke right outside the lobby. On Thursday I could smell the smoke not only coming from their "designated" smoking area, but the smoke had also traveled into the lobby and hallways of the school. Given the strict anti-smoking laws here in NYC I did some research, and found out that they aren't even allowed to smoke on school grounds even if it is outside.
I am upset about this because I don't think that they are setting a good example, but what is even worse they are exposing the kids to second hand smoke. And it is against the law. Do I have the right to do something about this as a person who used to be a smoker? Or is it my duty as a now ex-smoker to educate people about the dangers of smoking? I really don't want to turn into one of those finger pointing ex-smokers though I think I am on the fast track to become one. The other day I passed some smokers on the street, I had to walk thru the cloud of smoke and started coughing on purpose, and waved my hand to fan away the smoke, shaking my head all the while. Isn't this horrible? :quest:
Let me know what you all think about this,
thanks,
Gaby
