Jess!!! Dont give in, I'm so jelous of your rite now that you have 11 days. I'm on my first and its been pretty hard. You should be sooo proud of your self that you've gotten this far. When i quit a while back i use to lay down and close my eyes when i got the really bad cravings. Just try to think to yourself that it will pass, you got rid of most of the nicotine already, you dont want to have to start all over again

Yo Jess. It is not worth the time...I'm still smoking after a 7 year quit...yes that "just one" thought is a bunch of crap...now i have to go through all this stuff again. i have been trying to quit again for the past three months...now, if you like misery, go ahead and smoke, but if you like that deep sense of freedom you now have, don't SMOKE...Trust me that cigarette will not make anything better...scream, kick, cry, do whatever you must do, but don't SMOKE.......

Hey Jess Hope this post finds you doing ok. I know it's hard and yes you are feeling all the normal things. I once thought about those who quit numerous times and almost had myself convinced that I just needed to smoke as I wouldn't make it on my first quit. I decided to just hang in there for one more day and that has been many many days, weeks and even months ago now. This quittin isn't easy but it is doable. Many have done it before us and are here to support us now. Keep the quit. vicki just 1 puff away from 2 packs a day My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 88 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,530 Amount Saved: $616 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 0 Mins: 4 Seconds: 2

Jess...pull up a chair, we could be here a while. (just kidding) First of all....yes a lot of us have been there. Yelling and screaming at everyone in site. I posted something in the beginning of my quit called "am I mean" and there were a ton of people responded that hey had been mean as well. No you don't have to quit 2, 3 of 4 times to be quit. You can do it once. Some of us are just not that bright when it comes to the quitting cycle. This is the longest I have been quit and prior to this I only quit for a few days at a time. A week at the most. The difference for me has been this site and the knowledge I have gained about quitting. What you are feeling is perfectly normal but know that you control your attitude and your actions. You don't have to be mean. Also, it is not that you cannot smoke. You choose not to smoke and that is a wise choice. The sense of loss....oh my there are a million and one threads here about that. I felt (and sometimes still feel) that my best friend had died. Smoking is a crutch and replacing that crutch is not easy but you are doing a fine job. You are 11 days Quit and that is so Awesome!!!! Pay yourself on the back you deserve it. Remember: everyday is one day closer to never feeling this way again. It takes time but these feelings will pass and your quit will get much easier with just a few bumps here and there. Hang in there, you will be so glad you did. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 195 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,918 Amount Saved: $682.5 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 6 Mins: 23 Seconds: 21

Jess, It's ALL about the attitude you have when quitting. If you "romanticize the smoke" and concentrate on what you've lost, then you can't appreciate what you've gained. Yes, I too was very sad when I first quit. But I now realize that that's because when you quit, you're not getting as much dopamine as you did before and so you get depressed and it wasn't because I really "miss" smoking because there's not a whole lot to miss... I mean, unless you really LIKE smelling bad, wasting your money, being a social pariah, etc... But yes, it's totally normal to feel that way. The way to get over that is to look at what you've gained. Here are a few really great duffisms for you to read. He puts it in perspective better than most can. You really have to concentrate on the reasons that you're quitting... i.e. your family and your health and not on the cancer sticks that were sucking that away from you. Take time to enjoy life: Having Fun The Little Things And if you're wondering when the cravings or this feeling that you're having will end, read this one:When will they stop? and this one: Another Duffis Sermon The point is to enjoy what you have and what you've gained and NOT what you've lost by quitting. I know this takes time, but it all starts with your attitude towards quitting. YOU decide how you act. YOU decide what kind of person you're going to be. But if this seems to be more than you bargained for or it lasts longer than you think it should, talk to your doctor. You might need to be on anti-depressants for a while. And that will also help with quitting. Best wishes! Crave the Quit! Hey Jess, (from your post on the Weekend Pledge thread) It's a deal - we'll dig a big hole and dump the bodies together!! We'll change our names and hit the streets for fake ID and take off far, far away, because we can afford it now due to all the cigarettes we didn't buy lately!!! hee hee Lucy My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 21 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 540 Amount Saved: $178.5 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 12 Mins: 11 Seconds: 54

Jess, Here is what we usually advise. This indistinct but annoying symptom is linked with carbon monoxide withdrawal. It gives a sense of being in "another dimension." It can include changes in distance and space perception, a floating feeling, and a total lack of concentration. Remember that carbon monoxide is a deadly poison - it is a good thing to get out of your system. How long will this last? The first few weeks after quitting. Tips to help: Plan your workload to account for your temporary lack of concentration. Avoid additional stress during the first few weeks. It is normal and it will pass. If you have a symptom that persists or seems worse than you expected, you should immediately consult a doctor. Its possible that your smoking has been masking symptoms of some illness, and when you stop smoking the symptoms abruptly become noticeable. Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
