That is a good one! And it's amazing how we all have tried the same thing to a certain extent. I used to walk through the house with spritzing a bottle of fabreeze before company arrived; not that I wasn't going to smoke when they got there- just that I thought it would actually fool them into thinking the house smelled "nice".

He owns the company and there are only 3 other people working there. Last time two of them said something he got really mad. At one point when it was legal to smoke in offices there were 3 of us smoking and two that did'nt. I feel bad now for the ones that did'nt. I had no idea it was that bad. The only thing I have said to him is that the stuff he is spraying is wearing off and it smells like smoke in here. He said to me there is nothing worse then an ex smoker. I very calmly told him that I did'nt care if he smoked. I was'nt telling him he should quit. I just wanted him to know that what he was doing to cover it up so he would not get caught was not working. It will be only a matter of time before someone from the building comes into our office to ask if someone is smoking in there. I will let everyone know when that happens.

No kidding. The only good thing is his office is down the hall from my desk and he closes his door so the smoke is not in my face unless I have to go in his office to ask him something. But when the glade and candles wear off the whole office smells like an ashtray. One thing though I am glad I think it smells awful or I could be in big trouble. And yes you are right we are not allowed to smoke here in either.

That is exactly what he was trying to do. You should see all of the cans of glade air freshener that he sprays in there all day. I am just waiting for someone to complain like they did in the office building we used to be in. They caught him so much in the other building that he ended up having to work at home so he could smoke. They will catch on eventually because the office is starting to smell like an ashtray. One morning when the girl I work with and I got to work we saw that he had left the candle in his office burning all night. Hopefully they will catch him soon so I don't have to keep smelling candles, cigarettes and glade oh my! I should be getting hazard pay!!!!!!!!

My boss smokes in the office. He put a new candle on my desk this morning and lit it. (Because you are not suppossed to smoke in buildings here anymore) I have never had a candle on this desk before and I don't have a lot of room on my desk. After awhile I forgot it was even there. I was working on some papers entering info on the computer. The papers were stapled together so I was flipping them as I was done with each page. All of a sudden I thought to myself that something smells like it is burning. Keep in mind I had totally forgotten about the candle. All of a sudden I remembered the candle and looked over and my papers were on fire! My boss had a good laugh over that one. Not so funny to me.

Not sure where you are located, but most provinces/states have banned smoking in the workplace. Sounds like YOU deserve to work from home - drawing that mixture into your lungs day and and day out......I'm getting a headache just thinking about it!

Wow Iwin, I can't believe how insensitive your boss is. To smoke around all of you when he shouldn't even be smoking in the building is so rude. And leaving candles burning is sooo dangerous. You are right, you should get hazard pay. I'm a softy at heart and tend to let people live their own lives how they want, but you must say something to him. Get your fellow co-workers to band with you and tell him you WILL NOT work in those conditions. He can't fire you cause you can tell his boss, or labor board he was smoking in the office.
