Well this certainly is interesting....
I've tallied the responses so far and 13 of us reported having parents who smoked, while 5 reported having parents who did not smoke. Here's the positive part though... of the people who reported that they have kids, 5 reported having no kids who smoke, while only 1 reported having a child who smokes. So, even though a lot of us came from families of smokers, it seems that we are succeeding, at least a little bit, in getting our kids not to smoke.
Missyfit, I think you hit the nail on the head when you said it comes down to actively teaching our children not to smoke. After you said that, I thought about my situation, and while my parents didn't smoke, I don't remember them ever talking to me about the dangers of it... I think they just thought that they were leading by example. And until I started smoking, I HATED smoke! But that all changed when I started doing it myself, of course. So I think you might have a point that teaching our children not to AND leading by example is important.
