Unfortunately, they don't teach common sense and bedside manner at medical school. I'm sure that he meant well, but he has probably never smoked and has no idea what an accomplishment it is.
My doctor has never smoked. While he applauded my quitting and has read on the subject, it was pretty obvious he really didn't have a clue. On the other hand, his nurse quit many years ago and they way her eyes lit up was one of the best pats on the back I've had.
Sometimes we just have to consider the source. :)
