In my opinion, there are reasons why some people are more susceptible to addictions than others; there are underlying issues in our lives that make us more apt to pick up an addiction. As I read this article I began to wonder, why is it so much easier for some people to quit an addiction than others? Why do some relapse and others don't. If we quit our addictions, isn't it necessary for us to quit the habits that allowed us to fall prey to it in the first place? If we heal the other parts of ourselves, won't that make it that much easier for us to not fall prey to the same addiction again or fall prey to a different addiction (just replacing one addiction for another)? I hope you guys enjoy this read:
Living in the Moment Jan Luckingham Fable People seem to have great difficulty living in the moment. Many feel drained by living because they can't let go of old hurts, anger, fears or their need to feel in control of situations or people. If you want to learn to live more fully in the present, first you need to discover where you have been living, where your energy is being invested. Are you always exhausted? Do you feel like a victim? Do you try to control situations by trying to control others' feelings, actions or reactions? Are you often angry? depressed? fearful? You can begin to change this by answering the following questions as completely as you can: Where Do You Invest Your Energy? What negative memories can't you let go of? Are there things in your history that you are unable to forget? or to forgive yourself or others for? About your childhood? About your job? About your decisions and actions regarding your career? About your actions and decisions as a parent? About your marriage? About your divorce? About your self-image? About your negative attitudes? About your social relationships? Do you fear being talked about or judged? What are you controlled by? (person, habit, substance, fear, behavior) Whom do you fear? Whom do you need to control? From whom do you need approval? What fears control you? What are the beliefs about yourself or others that you hold that hurt your heart or impede you from living the life you wi

Thanks very much for the post BF, the article is printed and in my hand now. It made me cry which is embarrassing 'cause I'm at work and I'm a counselling psychologist but thank goodness I'm surrounded by supportive women & I wasn't with a client!, and thanks for bumping it Cobenfan. I really, really needed this today. chickstarr :( My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 20 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 625 Amount Saved: $250 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 22 Mins: 57 Seconds: 51

Breaking Free This was probably one of the best posts I have read, it explains a lot of emotional issues smokers and non smokers harbor that impede their lives and their quits. Thank you - I think this will benefit all that take take time to ponder it against their own actions. very nice, Breaking Free. Thanks for posting. This has been a crucial element in my quit and in my life in general. This is worth keeping on hand because, especially early on, even if you recognize these points, it is easy to bury them under the negative thoughts/feelings and forget. Don't forget - keep focused, persevere. keep fightin' the good fight - fish My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/21/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 165 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,973 Amount Saved: $825 Life Gained: Days: 21 Hrs: 10 Mins: 23 Seconds: 54
