Cincere -
I also have battled drug and alcohol addiction. I think about them all the time, too. I've finally kicked the smoking. Three addicitons down, 0 to go.
It just sounds like you need some help in your life right now and you're not getting any. Friends or family? Trust me when I say that smoking, drugs and alcohol never helped me do anything. They always made things worse.
Keep talking to us and look for someone to give you a hand. If your MD won't adjust your meds, go to a different MD. Funny thing about being an addict - the demons only come out when you're down.
Keep fighting!

So glad you posted and that you are still smoke-free. I'm disappointed that your doctor is not more supportive...if you have been feeling this way for a long time and zoloft has not worked you are either on the wrong dosage or the wrong medication. Is there any way that you can ask for a referral elsewhere - i.e. a Specialist.
You are so right, smoking will not cure depression...in fact, I think it often contributes to it.
We are thinking about you and sending lots of {{{hugs}}} your way.

Cincere,
In my estimation you are a VERY strong person. I know it hasn't been easy for you, but boy, you are a wonderful success story in the making. Great that you're seeing a councellor, and good for you having coffee with the pastor and his wife.
Please keep us posted. I'm rooting for you all the way!!!!
Cheers,
Jan

Cincere,
One step at a time.
I feel for you and to quit it really is just one moment at a time.
All the awful stuff will pass. You will get through.
Keep your head up and above water. Relax and you will begin to float. One step one moment one day at a time.
Phillip

This is an update to say that I am fine. At least I am on my way..
Thank goodness that I am still smokefree. It has not been a bed of roses though. Thank you Katy for your last reply. Going through it until we reach the other side is the only way. I think that the worst is behind me. I did begin drinking too much as a substitute for smoking. I think that the hand to mouth addiction caused me to drink faster then I normally would have. I have since stopped drinking altogether and have set up an appointment with an addictions counseller. I have also spoken with my paster and have arranged a weekly coffee break with him and his wife.
I have not been online recently as my computer crashed and I have just now gotten it up and running.

Hi all. You guys are awesome.
I'm on lunch break and do not have much time...as if there's ever enough...
I am still smoke free but its a struggle. I really don't feel as If I am in control some times. This black mood I experience is really frightening. It's as if I am an uncaring miserable person. The zoloft that Ive been taking is supposed to level out these moods. If it doesn't get better I will have to see my Dr. again but I do not have much faith in the system.
I know that smoking again will not fix all my problems. Wanting to smoke is really just a symptom.
Bye for now. Cindy
