The Boxer's Tale

What a great story Mr. Ed! Did you know that guided/visual imagery is actually a tool we nurses use with cancer patients and that it has been shown to be effective? So keep telling your stories, they may be helpful to quitters as well. Danielle __________________________________ The SSC Support Team

I felt nervous, afraid of what lay ahead. I knew that this was my biggest fight yet. I climbed into the ring and applied a protective patch to my arm. "In the red corner", announced the MC, "Mr Ed. In the brown corner, Mr O'Demon". The bell rang and my fears were realised. O'Demon hit my hard, punch after punch and I was weakening. All four of my legs buckled as I tried to last the distance. It seemed that this has been going on for days, but the fight had only started. A voice in my head shouted "Give in, it just isn't worth it". The voice seemed to get louder as I felt increasingly bruised and battered. As the fight wore on, O'Demon's punches continued, but somehow the impact was less. I was beginning to recover from the earlier pounding and was encouraged to hear support from the SSC club whose cheers kept me going. My strength and confidence were up now and I knew that I could win the fight. Then, stupidly, I dropped my guard. O'Demon hit me with a series of blows. Up close he looked really unpleasant and his breath was pretty bad as well. Having managed to fend him off with a clip round the ear from a front hoof, I carried on. ... And the fight continues... I am bloodied and bruised, but I know O'Demon is weakening. I will win now. Perhaps not from a knockout punch. But definitely on points. Mr Ed, You know who is going to win this fight, YOU. You hang in there and don't you dare give in...You have more power than old nic, do put him in his place. That is outside the ring, we are always here for you. Reach way down deep and find that extra strength that you have accumalated over the past few months. Then give me the blow out punch. Hang in there and hang tough, and it sounds like you are. Let us know how your day is going. It makes no difference how you win, just as long as you are still standing at the end of the battle. If O'Demon knocks you down, you know what to do. Just like Muhammed Ali, get back up! Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.
