Went to bed last night saying today would be my quit day. I did really well until about an hour ago. Someone came into my office and the habit just smacked me in the face. So I smoked a couple. Have one left. I refuse to let myself buy any, but am a bit ticked that I allowed myself to smoke. I wish my office was a non-smoking office. I smoke mostly at work out of boredom! Of course it doesn't help that my boss comes and sits across from my desk and smokes while going over things and making phone calls. I kept coughing trying to give him a hint, but it didn't work. Enough ranting. Just looking for a few friends that I can turn to when I need to be told to calm down and breathe and someone who will offer some insight and inspiration. Thanks!

kbien, Having cigarettes around when you are first quitting is a very difficult temptation. Get rid of the cigarettes so you don't use that as a crutch! You CAN do this quit, but you have to want it and you have to be ready for times when you want to smoke. Get ready! What are your coping mechanisms? What things are you planning to do when a craving hits? Get some hard candy, toothpicks, ice water, lolly pops, licorice, etc... handy and use THOSE instead of cigarettes. You CAN do this! Get ready for the fight of your life and then stick to it no matter what! Congrats on making a great decision for yourself. Crave the Quit! Long story, but I quit once for two years twenty years ago with smokers around me. I decided that I could not use smokers as an excuse to keep smoking, because I was not going to be able to control having them around me. That was before California became very vigilant about public smoking. First get rid of that cigarette and don't buy anymore. Second, go through the quit tools over on the left. Third, you have every right to ask someone not to smoke in your presence, including your boss. Hints just don't work with some people. Fourth, it isn't a habit that hits you in the face -- it's an addiction. Take responsibility for your quit...don't blame your office or other smokers. It's your body, your life, your quit. You can do it!
