Leaving Las Vegas

for 18 år siden 0 515 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Well I sure hope so N2k, as I am very nervous about next week Tuesday when I land in Vegas. Have a family reunion to attend & will be there for four days. It will be the biggest test of my quit to date - - and my quit is very young yet. I do gamble but I've never gotten out of hand with it so it is enjoyable to me. I don't drink (which is probably why I've never gone berserk gambling, ha, ha!) but have always smoked while doing it. I will be there alone, my husband is staying home. I will see a lot of much loved family (two of which are my chain-smoking parents ). Have been trying to come up w/contingency plans for the temptation times (other than just leaving the room) :(. Keep wondering if I'm starting to set myself up for failure as I find myself THINKING about it way too much. After reading your post I realize I have been worrying about it for a couple days now. Whether it's just natural or more junkie thinking, I'm at a loss to say since I can't always be objective about myself. Those 'romantic images' of smoking in casinos while gambling just keep popping up. I push them out w/positive thoughts but they just keep piling up. Maybe seeing people with white surgical masks will jar me enough to get back on a strong resolve. My resolve seems to be getting wimpy these last couple of days . . . quick! Someone slap me! Sigh, Ericon My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 12 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 446 Amount Saved: $87 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 10 Mins: 29 Seconds: 18

N2K thanks for that post, I love Vegas, haven't been in a couple of years, I don't think I will go any time soon, although I really wanted to see Celine Dion. I go to the Casino here in Montreal once in a while, lucky for us it's non-smoking now, since the smoking ban here, no smoking anywhere but your home or outside, this helps a whole lot. Thanks again and have a great week-end :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 60 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 900 Amount Saved: $240 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 21 Mins: 55 Seconds: 25

Hi N2k, Great thread,it all sounds so wonderfully exotic to me, sitting here in my patch of the UK, having never been to the US or Canada and only ever seen Vagas on the TV!! No smoking in public places was definately an additional motivator for me to pack it in...I mentioned once before that I was horrified with myself for almost resenting my son for inviting me out for a meal in a no smoking restaurant...how could I enjoy the meal without tobacco?? So glad those days are over. Congratulations N2k on your upcoming one year anniversry...great job. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Flippers flapping, lots of seal noises. Kind of like barking. Sooooo glad you are back. You are so correct. Concentrate on what a wonderful gift we give ourselves, our bodies and our minds by not smoking. The white masked image is scary. SARS shut down my life for a couple of weeks and those white masks are scary, not being able to breath is scary. Not smoking is pretty wonderful. I am really happy you are here. Hey, it's like Wal-Mart in here. I just keep seeing people I haven't seen in a while.~lol -- It's terrific 2see you Missy! :) Cheers to N.O.P.E. -- *Hummyhugz* Maison bienvenue de Paris! Glad 2have U back N the states. -- lilly, Thank you for talking the time and thanks! :) I did that sort of thing too. I can remember driving and holding my cigarette down so strangers in other vehicles wouldn't see me smoking!? I wasn't a closet smoker but I was ashamed of myself for smoking. (Except for the times when I didn't give a damn who didn't like it. *sigh*) I used to smoke in the car with my son in his car seat. I would crack the window and smoke all the way to the store and all the way back. Smoking made me selfish and I would also feel ashamed for being selfish AND I would feel weak for not being able to quit! It was a cycle of doom. Mentally and physically. *snapping myself out of that sad/bad memory* FORTUNATELY :) ....I'm not selfish, ashamed or weak anymore. I'm glad those days are over too! ;) Hey, you will soon be a member of the Century Club Lilly. We both have a lot to be proud of now that we have quit. Lady, I hadn't thought of that. I do believe you are right. Smokers were always in the minority when I was one. Btw~2 years ago there used to be five of us (at my workplace) that stood outside to smoke. Last year (I quit) so there was four. Now there are only two. Yeah I know MistyMoon. I'm here for the upcoming par-teh! :eg: Well gosh, I didn't realize you were in the city of lights. Staying at your smoke-free place could have made my trip a real bargain :p All the best, N2k My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 357 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,856 Amount Saved: $1785 Life Gained: Days: 33 Hrs: 21 Mins: 22 Seconds: 12

I hear ya Marilyn :) The first time I went to Vegas I did gamble and chain smoked the entire time too. I once read that gambling affects the same reward centers in the brain as smoking addiction. That's not why I didn't gamble though. I tend to think of gambling in the same way I look at the lottery (here in my state) It's a tax on people that are bad at math.*grin* *hugzback@yagirl* -- Thanks Shevie and Lady :) I'd rather hang out with you ex-smokers any day. You are right on Lady, no more smoking for me. You can bet on that! ;) I'll never gamble with my health again. -- Hi Marie, I didn't see Celine but I did see the Blue Man group and 'literally' ran into Seal (singer) and Heidi Klum (model) in Ceasar's Palace. We flew back into Dallas and most everything there is smoke free now. I didn't see anyone smoking in Dallas. --- Btw~There are a lot of smoke free places in Vegas too. Many of the resturants and tours, ALL of the arcades, motion rides, IMAX, malls, etc. are smoke free. There is a lot to do there besides casino gaming.
