being selfish

for 18 år siden 0 589 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
After being a smoker for 16 years and now having quit for 3 weeks I've begun to realize something. Just how selfish I was being a smoker. At work I took extra breaks to have a smoke, the non smokers around me didn't take these breaks and nor did I offer to let them have one when they were working with me. It makes me feel bad as now when I see the some of the smoking others on my team going out for a smoke and I'm running the shift (and frustrated as hell...lol) it kind of makes me angry. SO on those frustrated days I just tell them I'm going for a chocolate bar break and take a few minutes out for myself. I work in a busy fast food chain as a restaurant manager....so while i haven't got any kids for 8 hours a day I do have anywhere from 4-12 teenagers! Good for you SillyMe for taken that choc break. I had the same realization. I don't work,my hubby still smokes. Gee I have notice just how much he goes outside, and leaves the kids alone. It drives me nuts now too. Even though i did it to. I think kids will be better off now that they have at least one of us in there w/them. I was thinking last night about the time it takes to smoke and how many time you did it. If you smoked 20 fags aday. Say in a 16hr window What 5-10 minutes ea time. 5min would be 100min,... 1hr and 40min out of day 10min breaks 3hrs and 20 minutes. smoked 40 5min 3hrs and 20min 10min 6hrs and forty min To give repect to the crochunter..."criecky" thats a lot of damn fag breaks people. gee get up and do something better with life. You are doing sooooo well!! I keep thinking of that chip comercial where the woman is doing all the work while the men stand around talking about the construcition workers below, where one is doing all the work...perhaps you have not seen it...? Anyways, I'm with you on that score. Now that I don't smoke I resent the hell out of the smokers....those people take more than their fair share of breaks :) I consider it pay back time...But I do take breaks. There is a 1/2 mile walking trail right next to my office (actually more, but the office is about 3/4 of the ways into it.) So I take a morning walk while the rest puff away.............keep up the good quit! It is still important to be selfish, in other words ... to take care of ourselves. Only now we can do healthy things when we take a break. We can reward ourselves with healthy things. We can love ourselves instead of kill ourselves. Sillyme, the breaks are very important and I'm glad to hear you are taking them. Chocolate bar, granola bar, cup of coffee, read the funnies in the paper, whatever works. If you're used to "getting away" briefly from work, it's a good idea to continue doing that. Keep up the good quit, Sillyme. One of things I missed most when I quit was my breaks. I think it's a good idea to continue taking breaks --- but make them snack breaks, walk breaks, visit someone breaks, deep breathing breaks, or snag a reward break. But now I do notice how many breaks smokers take and how long they stay out there! Sillyme, I did come to realize how selfish I was as a smoker but in some other ways. My family kept ashtrays at their houses for me even though they didn't smoke. My friends and family would wait for me outside of restaurants or movies while I smoked. They all put up with the smell that lingered on me without a word. All the while they were watching me hurt myself while it really hurt them in the process. Talk about selfish! The beautiful thing is that all that came to an end when we quit! Great job on your quit - you almost have a MONTH behind you.
