Ok I did some supply shopping in preperation of August 1, 2006. Figured I'd do it early and then use some of it in my "cutting back process". Here's what I got: Corn nuggets Sunflower seeds Slim Jims Peanut M&M's Party mints Trident gum in all flavors Straws *to be cut and smoked ;) Blow pops Silly Putty Coloring books / crayons Crossword / funny light up pencil Twizzlers *licorice, strawberry and that stringy kind someone told me about Red Hots Car freshner Dum Dum suckers *I figure the name says it all Chapstick *a friend of mine used that to replace her after dinner smoke Lemon heads Pepermints That's it so far. I still have 19 days if anyone has any last minute suggestions :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: -19 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Thank you all for your replies :) I read the post N2k and even took notes :) It will be a great help in the days to come, thank you. Please do follow my progress, the more people who hold me accountable the better. I can so much relate to the part about cutting back and how you are putting yourself in a constant state of torture and pleasure. What I'm donig now is holding off that cigarette for 15 min (I even bought a timer lol) and during that time I use my "healthier pleasures" like gum, candy, etc. and I tell myself that this is much more pleasurable than a cigarette and not to worry that for the next 18 days I can still have that smoke. I've found that the 15 min seems less and less all the time. At first 15 min felt like an hour and today it seems more like 5 or 10. Chickstarr, here is an american junk food translator lol Red hots = small cinnamon flavored candies Twizzler = name brand licorice Blow pop = lol its a big sucker with bubble gum in the center, but I can certainly understand the confusion Slim Jim = no one really knows for sure lol but its a kind of spicy beef stick I really do feel good about this. I know that with your advice and your support it's possible. I'm craving that positive number on my meter more than I am craving a smoke now and thats the best feeling in the world :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: -18 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

You're funny, I think that this is great preparation. I was much more disorganised. I had to run to the shops about 5 times a day for supplies in the early days. I love the colouring book & pencils. What is a red hot? & a twizzler? & a slim jim? & Blow pops (dare I ask)!? LOL We don't have these exotic products in Australia. You'll be just fine alison :) Kick the Herb to the Kerb My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 57 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,739 Amount Saved: $712.5 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 5 Mins: 9 Seconds: 14

Hey up there Christine~good to see you again -- Hi Tina! lol~this post reminds me of an 'old post' I haven't thought of in...a longtime. More on that in a minute. I've been trying to follow your progress Tina (on your other threads) as much as time allows. You seem to be detail oriented. I wanted to know EVERYTHING. I really like your personality too. You have made me laugh quite a bit. I ALSO started out here at the SSC with a negative number on my meter. I'll see if I can find my list of 'Need2know things' ;) (when I was a pre-quitter) and link it. (it's the post you reminded me of) You might get a kick out of seeing it. I know Shevie's been helping you and as you'll see, he helped me a bunch too. (However, it should be noted I was not nearly as positive at this stage as you are. This post shows my first 'aha' (light bulb) moment when I realized what it was going to take for me to get beyond my fear. I did have some problems with cutting back prior to my quit date too. BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN YOU WILL. Lots of people taper off successfully. Okay here we go Learning from Mistakes Just ignore anything that you can't relate to or is too over-the-top  for you. I have a good feeling about you. I know you can do this! All the best :) N2k My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 326 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,192 Amount Saved: $1630 Life Gained: Days: 31 Hrs: 0 Mins: 40 Seconds: 33

grin@Chicka our 'starr quitter'. I bet that does sound odd to someone who doesn't know what it is. The red hots, twizzler and blow bobs (suckers) are all candy and the slim jim is a beef stick kind of like a soft beef jerkey.
