The Smoking Dream

for 18 år siden 0 140 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I had a dream last night that I smoked - 3 cigarettes to be exact. I woke up feeling so disappointed in myself - I haven't been able to shake it all day. It didn't cause a crave, more of a feeling of gloom - and that I had failed, again (I relapsed after a 2-1/2 year quit). I've been outside all morning doing physical therapy (yard work) - cutting the grass, trimming the hedges, edging a garden. I'm so glad it didn't really happen, but I'm amazed at how the feeling of remorse sticks around. sushik So now I smell like cedar, but I guess it's better than smelling like cigarettes. Suskik, These dreams are very common. Reward yourself today to reinforce the fact that you've kept your quit! Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

This is so strange. My first smoking dream was very early on in my quit, within the first month if I remember correctly. There were no more, until last night. Now 344 days into my quit. I dreamed that I got upset about something, and smoked 3 or 4 cigarettes one right after the other. There was no coughing, it was like it was only yesterday that I had smoked the last time. I woke up with a start. Initially I did not realize it was a dream. I felt terrible, no longer able to say that I made it to one year without one slip. And then the realization hit, that indeed it was a dream. And the bigger reality is, that I am stronger than that demon ever gave me credit for! I just wanted to share this experience, to let the newer quitters know that Nic can and will sneak up on you, often when you least expect it. Stay strong, stay true to yourself, and stay quit! Anxiety dream it sounds like. Your body's way of saying "remember how bad it feels to lose a quit?" I had the smokers dream a few times early in my quit. I haven't had it in months now.... sushik, why do you fear these smoking dreams? Why did you wake up disappointed? I remember these dreams and remember feeling such happiness. Firstly I hadn't really smoked at all, meaning I'd had the pleasure of smoking without the consequences. Perhaps it's an innate sense of optimism that made me enjoy these dreams, but you only dream of smoking because your body is healing, your lungs are clearing the debris and you 'taste' it as it clears and incorporate it into a dream. Don't fear it, embrace it for what it is. You didn't smoke, always remember that and then go and buy that new CD or special treat you know you deserve. sushik, YOU DIDN'T SMOKE, be proud, ok.
