Picking Up the Pieces

Phillip, As a "newbie" I have to tell you that reading your thread of difficulty has done everything but scare me. I saw such love in that thread and it made me want to get to 100+ days just to experience that. It showed me that there will ALWAYS be people here for me... not just untill I'm "supposed" to be better. I feel that there are some people that are just more addicted than others and it is such and individual thing. I know from my experience this weekend that I am very very addicted. It's going to take a long fight to get over it. I'm also experiencing a lot of hopelessness and despiration. Please don't take a break, I need you! I want to see you get through this so that I will know that I can too! Phillip, I've put together so many posts to reply, and none of them say what I really want - so in the hopes that you know where my heart is ~~ I wish you the best of everything and hope that when you send this upstairs, that he will point you in the right direction and help guide the way a little bit. Stay strong and be peaceful. I posted this in Walking on Eggshells and I wanted for it to be more widely read so here it is. The story of the loving intervention. So once again thank you to everyone who responded. And in the light, the absolute brilliance of not giving up on myself, something that I am learning to trust myself with. I have embarked on the following: I have made a Doctors Appointment (first week July) I have made an appointment for an assesment into a nicotine sessation group program and I get to speak to an addictions counsellor, two days from now and I imagine I will start a live group the week following. I have looked out a men's support group other than the ones I facilitate to find a place for my story and life to be held and supported. (not many groups want to take me on because I facilitate support groups) I have changed my diet to be: first, more healthy and second, more regular. I don't think I eat regular enough. I have adjusted and changed some of my rewards, the 1/2 hour and hour kind, no more sweets and lots of fresh fruit an orange, and apple, a banana, strawberries and my favorite cherries. I am drinking more fresh fruit juice and a bit less water. I think my sugar levels and maybe my salt levels were flucuating too much. I was drinking a large amount of bottled water every day. Looking at and finding more weekly rewards for celebrating and honouring that I am doing this and I am succeeding with this. Making my quit journal even more spectacular, beautiful and more full of my own writtings. Looking into finding a way to publish it. So guys I am not staying stuck, I am not a stick in the mud and I am doing some serious searching to find how to get my brain and my body to really get what a miracle I am creating. You see no matter how much I was telling my brain one thing, my brain simply was not getting it. Kind of like the mom telling the five year old how good broccoli is??!!?? The loving intervention, thats what I a working towards. Smoke free and clearing the haze. I will reply more fully to each of your responses as I can, I have to go back to work now. Thank you and blessings and peace to you all Phillip My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 123 Cigarettes Not

Going to fill some of this out a bit more and first my thoughts about one other point. That I could effect or harm anothers quit. After much thought I don't really think that is possible. From what I see, each of us posts here simply to get and give support. My heart is in giving to others and hopefully what anyone reads of what I have written my posting, writting will help them, if not I hope that they will for certain only take what they might use and please leave the rest. I was devastated to hear in another post of how hearing about a long term quitter craving or having the desire to smoke would be frightening or unsupportive to a new non smoker. I simply can not buy into this. That piece of fear is not mine and needs be where it belongs with it's owner. If talking about what actually goes on for me, and even if I only represent a fraction of a percentage of the population, is frigthening then so be it. Nothing that I have ever said in any post is or has in any way ever been ment to frighten anybody away, infact my intention is really the opposite and meant to help, inform, educate others, if there is any identification with what I say then good if there is non then there is non. In all of this I intend to continue to post what is going on with me and to tell my story and my experience of how I carry out this heartfelt intervention of love for myself. And besides there are moderators to this conversation and if there are posts that are inappropriote than they will delete them, (been there done that). Now to flesh out what I am doing, picking up the pieces of my life and this quit. Seeing the Doctor, I am primarily going to ask him about anti-anxiety medications, they might help ease out the rollercoaster. Nicotine addiction counselling specialist, talk, talk about what is going on and see if they have suggestions for dealing with the anxiety. (Now get this and get this very clear, there is a difference for me between anxiety and fear, fear I have lots and lots of methods of dealing with, panic and anxiety for myself not so much.) I would be very interested in hearing what an addiction specialist has to say about anxiety as it is one of the very common symptoms of withdrawl from any kind of drug. It will also be great to hear from any individ

Keep working it out Riverdale man! You are doing what you need to do to get through this process. We are all different and people have the right to take what they want and leave the rest. I admire your ability to stand up for the way you feel. Most people have a hard time doing that. You are progressing along this quit journey and doing a fine job of it my friend. Just keep going. You are definately heading in the right direction. Do not let anyone discourage you! You are an inspiration to those traveling with you. Get some rest. A good night of sleep will do wonders for you. You have a kind soul and I'm glad to share this journey with you. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 354 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,097 Amount Saved: $1239 Life Gained: Days: 31 Hrs: 6 Mins: 32 Seconds: 24
