Thanks Ladybugg, wow that is a great list and some of those things really stop me in my tracks. Rotting from the inside is totally right. If only we could see the damage we're doing. I try to imagine a smokers lungs when I see them now, see through to the truth of it. Hugging freely is also a luxury of a non-smoker. and thanks Zyban! - I've been trying to find out what the story is with pubs etc in England as in NZ it's all longbanned but in oz here the pub only has to have a designated non-smoking area. I think the full ban is a way off yet. It helps so much not getting overwhelmed with smoke when you walk into a room ! Isn't it mad that we used to be able to smoke at work? I used to smoke at my desk!!!! it's crazy now to think about it, typing away and then take a drag, then type, then drag. Smoking on trains, in banks... in planes! yuk! smokers rights were out of control. I can't imagine trying to overcome this addiction in those days. Still people did. Goes to show if you want something bad enough... Now Zyban, how's that weather???? Thanks Ladybugg. It's good to hear from people who have really ridden this wild horse! 475 days!!! Don't know why I'm down really when the fact of the matter is that I'm free from smoking nicotine which is something I've wanted so badly. It's easy to get lost in this fog and forget how far we've already come. Will try to concentrate on that abit more! You're right, this quit is precious - I'm pining after something that doesn't exist and which I don't even want, it's just that I'm impatient to get to the other side and feel abit like I'm in no mans land dodging bullets. It's pretty easy for me not to smoke these days but I do still find myself assessing possible future excuses to relapse, then getting annoyed and upset because there are none and I know it and that means I'm never going to get away with innocent dumb smoking ever again. I know this is stupid and I don't intend to smoke right now, as I say on a day to day level I never really contemplate going out and buying cigs and/or smoking them now, I contemplate setting up a situation or about events that may provide an excuse to get started again and be like I used to be i.e. drugged up but also able to hang out with my friends like I used to, drink tea and smoke and talk with my mum like I used to. I know I know that cigs didn't make these occassions better apart from having a mutual feeding frenzy but because of the nature of addiction I'm forced to spend less time with them and they feel weirded out by me not smoking. It's always a little tense because it's so obvious that I'm not smoking and inside we're probably both thinking "are they judging me?". It's like there's a ginormous huge pimple on the end of my nose that we're both trying to pretend is not there!!! I know I'll get to a point where it won't matter to me or anyone because none of us will even remember I smoked but at the moment it is emotionally painful. I miss my friends, my mum and my old self. I don't miss the smoking per se, I miss the comraderie. I know it's a mirage but knowing that is even breaking my heart. That sounds bird-brained I know, I'm feeling emotional, we're leaving oz in 2 weeks to move to London and I feel bad now that I've hardly seen people unaware that we were going to move to the other side of the world. I still can't drink alcohol without going nuts about smoking too. Arghhhh! I just needed to get this all out into the ether. Hi Chicken BE PROUD OF YOURSELF You have made an enormous step in becoming a non-smoker. Think of yourself as never ever smoking again. I can understand the part of how we THINK we are missing something but the reality is that we are GAINING better health each day. Hold onto and treasure that. I have similar thoughts about missing some of my friends whom we shared smoking time with but now I forcus more of the time we still spend together but not with cigarette in hand. I sure you have many frinds who have never smoked and enjoy their company just as much as you do those who do smoke. We have made the choise to not smoke and worked bloody hard to get there. Dont throw away all the hard work for a few minutes of poison. Enjoy the clean air. Very understandable CL. You are wise to come here and talk about it. That allows you to look at it for what it is. If you are like me~You'll make it to the 'otherside' when you least expect it. ChickenL - weather here c***. A heatwave has just broken so it is hot and humid and overcast. Typical, the weekend is coming up. I remember smoking at my desk too. I also remember about 20 years ago going to see my doctor and he was smoking a pipe!!! How times change, thank goodness. Ladybugg - I agree, what a good quit date! I wish mine was the same year as yours though :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 111 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,224 Amount Saved: 277.5 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 10 Mins: 14 Seconds: 31

Hey ChickenL, let me be the first to welcome you to England! I know, you're not here yet but you soon will be. Smoking is being banned in all pubs here soon so drinking will not be a problem and a lot of pubs are already non smoking. You're doing really well so keep on keeping on! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 111 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,223 Amount Saved: 277.5 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 9 Mins: 57 Seconds: 35

hey ChickenL! First off...congrats on finishing out two full months! This is awesome! Have you rewarded yourself? You deserve something nice. When it comes to your friends and family...I'm sure they will understand the room you have given yourself for your quit! You've done what you needed to to succeed. It may seem like the timing was bad...but there's never a good time to go through this, is there? Do what you can before you move to get together, or at least talk to, those you haven't seen for a while. Take lot's of pictures before you go. No matter what, hold on to that precious quit!
