I went out to a Summer Ball last night. It was a black tie event people women wearing beautiful dresses and men in tuxedos. You know the kind of night.
It was held in an old stately home hotel. With a huge marquee in the garden. It was interesting to watch. As smokers tried to smoke in the marquee and were asked to leave and go outside. They all huddled together, so I went outside, and said that i didnt smoke anymore. I said everytime I quit, I ask smokers, and they ALL EVERYONE say that they want to give up, and dont want to smoke anymore. As I stood there, someone else came out who was had been asked to leave for smoking inside.
Later - we were sat in the hotel bar, having late drinks, and over and over people would light up, and a member of staff would come and ask them to leave. It was then, that i really realised that times really had changed. You could not smoke in a marquee in the garden, neither could you smoke in a bar. As smokers did light up they were made to feel completely humiliated.
I drank, as it was a free bar all night - so I drank way too much! But i didnt smoke. I am so glad I am not smoking. Smokers I met last night were made to feel degraded, and humiliated for smoking. I am so glad that wasnt me.
