my emotions got the better of me so I had my comfort food mushrooms on toast even though I was on day 2 of my new diet - I thought at least its better than having a ciggarette!!

Sometimes I go back and read my posts and the typing and grammar are so horrendous that I don't know how anyone hears me, Ladybug! LOL!!Sheesh, my post was painful to read. I'm hoping for an IQ raise any day now. ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 39 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,147 Amount Saved: $507 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 6 Mins: 50 Seconds: 9

I've been learning to baby step just about everything, LadyBug. For peopel like me, this is a really big issue. Like a diet plan - we set lofty goals, and then get frustrated when we don't see any progress right away, and give up. Same with excercise, ballancing the checkbook, paying the bills, cleaning the house, helping the childrne witht he homework, and quitting smoking among various other things (everything in life). There's gobs of us out here, and you know who you are. Perfectionism can and will swallow you whole. Let me give an example: I am tkaing baby steps - I quit smoking first, and then I added walking my girls to the bus stop eveyr morning (see the "bless your heart" thread in the weight gain forum if you want to take baby steps too) and then I quit eating chocolate everyday. One day I got up late, couldn't take my walk, and then I ate a huge chocolate bar, and then i thought "Well, i've thrown it all away, i might as well smoke too". Eehhh? I know thre are people in here who have had very simular thoughts!! Taking baby steps means not letting perfectionism ruin you. I took a deep breath, and told myself "NO! I havn't ruined anything.. I missed one walk, and ate one chocolate bar, and I have not smoked. Tomorrow I will baby step myself right back into my routines." MistyM, I hear ya! The best diet I ever went on was for only 3 weeks at a time. I can do perfection for 3 weeks! *lol* My task lists at home are broken into very small pieces...I NEED to be able to check off progress as I go...baby steps. When we quit smoking...we need to think in terms of today, or even this hour. At the beginning of my quit, if I thought about not smoking forever...sheesh...I can't be perfect forever! But I CAN not smoke just for today. Keep it going MistyMoon, I do believe you're gonna string alot of "todays" together!
