The slippery slope!!!!!!

Phillip, I understand your frustration. Yes, it can be very, VERY frustrating seeing people, especially people further along than you are smoke, but those are their quits and you MUST concentrate on yours. Otherwise, you are going to drive yourself crazy! I remember getting mad at "slippers" who smoked and didn't reset their meters too... until I became one of them and walked a mile in their shoes and realized what it was really like to have to make that decision. I'm not excusing it, mind you. I'm not saying it's OK to smoke and not reset... I'm just saying that I understand where they are coming from because I have been there. The only quit you have to worry about is yours. You can ONLY control YOUR quit! Worrying about whether other people are resetting their meters or not is futile because you have NO control over it! Fact: people on this site WILL smoke. Fact: Some of those people will not reset their meters. Fact: I can't stop them from smoking anymore than I can reset their meters for them. Accept these facts, Phillip, and you will be a lot better off. Yes, I understand your frustration. Really, I do. But would you rather those people who smoked go back to smoking? Resetting the meter is such a blow to your momentum! It makes you not even want to continue a lot of the time! It makes you think "what's the use? If I can blow a xxx days quit, then I can blow a 0 day quit!" And then they smoke... and then they smoke some more... and then they smoke some more... It happens. I would rather they do what's best for them to keep them smoke free in the future than worry about what others think about their meters. Just my opinion. I've learned to not care what others' meters say. I hope that you can too. It makes life a WHOLE lot easier and less frustrating! Crave the Quit! Are you all forgetting the many times that you have quit and then relapsed, or smoked one? As Danielle said, Not everyone gets it right the first time, or even the tenth! Heck, I've tried to quit 10 times. Some of you have tried to quit many more times than that. Everyone's journey to freedom from nicotine is different. Don't get on a high horse because you have finally realized what you believe to be your forever quit. Let anyone do with their meter what they want. It should be an insignificant point to the rest of us. This is supposed to be a support group. This is not a "non-smoking area". This is a site for people who have the desire to be free from nicotine addiction and are trying to find their way to that freedom. I actually know people that are social smokers. They smoke when they go out on a weekend and never have another puff during the week. They do not crave nicotine or even want to smoke during the week. They have been doing this for years. I always told those people that I wished that I could do that; but I know that I can't. Liken them to social drinkers. Some people can drink their whole lives and never have a problem. People on this site, however, need to be honest with themselves about the possibility of them actually staying a social smoker...not many people can do it. There is a thread somewhere on this site that explains that people who can stay social smokers actually have some kind of defective gene that keeps them from getting addicted to nicotine. To stay free from nicotine, we do have to have the attitude that Riverdale man puts forth. It may take some longer to get to that point. But, lets support them along their journey. I disagree. There is such a thing as a social smoker. I know 2 of them very well. We just can not be one because we are addicts. Everything is not always black and white; but for us addicts the truth is black and white; we can not take a puff. oh yea, niks, me too. Only I would do the sneak up on you thing. Smoke one or two on Monday;not smoke again until Friday, then it would be 5 or6. By Friday of the next week, I'd be at the grocery buying a pack for the weekend. Us addicts have to recognize that about ourselves and not kid ourselves about our addiction to nicotine. no little cigars, no expensive cigars that we won't inhale, no one a week. It just doesn't exist for an addict.
