My husband and I bought ipods. He got a membership to my gym. We've gone out to eat. Rewards are great. There are a lot of non-cash rewards you can do as well. This is great if you want to use your saved money to invest or pay off bills. Barbara, Congratulations on kicking the habit! Start working through the program and remember this is a learning experience and practicing this new habit of not smoking takes time before it becomes second nature. Take some time to look at past quit attempt. Pull out the strategies that worked best for you when trying to fight cravings and modify/change the ones that didn't. What led to your slip/relapse? Any triggers? How will you get around them this time? Furthermore, take some time to observe your current routines. When do you smoke? why? and strengthen your quit plan by basing it on your observations. Ex: You use to have coffee and a cigarette first thing in the morning. Now you'll read the paper while drinking your coffee? Do you have a reward system? It should have three components: small one for after each craving, medium for the end of each smoke-free day and a bigger one for the end of each smoke-free week. It doesn't matter what reward you choose so long as you value it and are willing to work for it. Do you have a list of distractions? Keep us posted, Danielle _________________________ The SSC Support Team

ok. today is my first day. i put a patch on 3 1/2 hours ago. i was reluctant to use the patch, but i am willing to try anything. i had quit in 1988 and started again in 2002. not sure what number i am on in trying to stop, maybe 5 or 6. i quit cold turkey in 1988 with no problems, just put out my cigarette and never touched one again until 2002. not the same now, of course i am older but obviously not smarter. so, here i am. i feel good about my decision. i am a bit angry at my past inability to quit. i am the director of a non-profit social service agency and for luck or support i put my patch on in front of my staff at work. we end all of our weekly staff meetings with a positive, something we are thankful for, and when my turn came i stood up and put on the patch. thank you for listening and i appreciate whatever support you may allow me to borrow from you. barbara My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Hello Barbara, Congraulations on Your decision to quit, You might say I'm retired from the S,S,C, with over 3 1/2 years without a cigerette touching my lips, Oh, I stop by on ocassions and hope I can give Quitters some positive energy, I never though in my wildest dream that I would quit smokeing like Your attempting to do at this time, Myself smokeing 40 years, 1 and 1/2 packs aday, but the People on this website prove me different, for they gave so much support and wilpower to succeed, Sure I became addicted to this website, But when You get Great People backing and cheering You on from Canada, Austrailia, England, France, Ireland, United States, And if that is not enough Motivation for You to quit, Then Friend, You had better keep smokeing, Because that's the route I took, and they kept saying to me, Come on John, If I can do it, You should have no problem, Yes, I gave up the addiction of smokeing, which was my main goal, But I pick up Two other addictions, One was Walking 2 to 3 miles a day and excercising, and eating healthy foods, And my other addiction was getting attached to this Website, Barbara, it beats smokeing all to He--, So get on this wagon here and You will find lots of help around the world, and in return, You also can help others as You've been helped, Having that Positive Attitude and Motivation is the best Weapons against this addiction, Good Luck friend, I do hope You succeed, Smokeless In Oklahoma :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/10/2003 Smoke-Free Days: 1272 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 38,186 Amount Saved: $5444.16 Life Gained: Days: 300 Hrs: 20 Mins: 44 Seconds: 47
