Oh, and BTW, I do have a double Jack and (diet) coke each and every night about this time---I NEVER drank before, this is my reward and sedative---I rather like it and...since I was a tee-totaler before, I certainly deserve it! :8|: Besides, between the alcohol and the patch (and wellbutrin)...I have some WEIRD dreams to be remembered for some time!!! :8o: Don't worry...I'm OK...You're OK............ :)

I am trying to be real positive here....I cannot do cardio workouts yet because I have COPD. Hello :gasp: after 34 years of smoking, I am lucky to be able to run to the mailbox and back (and that's when it is raining!) :gasp: I'm sorry. Sometimes I am such a drag! I wish I had quit sooner, ..but until a year ago, I really did not note a difference. I go next month for some further testing, I had an abnormal chest x-ray about a month ago. :( Not to worry---I will still be a B$%^#h and giving you hell! :)

walking 2 miles a day isn't enough exercise. take advantage of lungs working at full capacity and really push your cardio. and for food, i suggest sugar free popcicles and diet coke and low carb (lots of meat, non-white vegetables) just my suggestion good luck ! If you can't do cardio because of the COPD, do yoga classes and an hour of weight/resistance training instead of the cardio. The yoga classes concentrate on breathing and while the class gives you a workout, it is relaxing as well. I soooooooooo know how you feel!!!! I was 35 pds over weight last week ... just NOW have I finally lost weight. So I am now 30 pds over weight. Since I have quit I have tried all kinds of stuff to loose weight. This is what I have found has worked best for me. Use any of these ideas if you'd like:

Save all your calories for food. Do not drink any calories.
Eat low calorie protein. It turns to lean muscle if you are working out. The more lean muscle you have the higher your metabolism. (white chicken, white turkey, shrimp, tuna in water)
30 minutes of cardio & 30 minutes of weight training 4 times a week. Alternate upper body and lower body work outs with weights.
Always park far away in the parking lot. Go for bike rides and/or walks by yourself or with others. Always take the stairs instead of the elevator.
Fat free popcorn, pickles, watermelon, radishes ... there are a lot of low cal snacks ... dip recipe: fat free sour cream with spices or ranch powder mixed into it ... very low cal dip for veggies
get rid of sugar, white flour and fat (butter, oil) in your diet as much as possible. I use splenda (sweetener). I use fat free, calorie free cooking sprays. I use Molly mcbutter. Use fat free mayo. Mustard has no calories. I buy bread that is 45 cal per slice vs. bread that is 70 to 90 calories a slice. It all adds up. So lower calories where they don't matter so you can make the most of the ones that do.
Exercise regularly, not sporadically.
My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 78 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,366 Amount Saved: $312 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 15 Mins: 16 Seconds: 55

Hi all I read a study done once about survivors of the Nazi war camps. Some army guys volunteered to be starved slowly to see the reactions of the body and how best to initiate recovery (to work out how to best help the survivors). These poor guys were put on starvation rations of 1200 calories a day. Unheard of! lol Moral of the story? Diets suck. From lots of stuff I've read (too much probably) I think best is to steer clear of anything processed and eat good & fresh fruit & veges and anything else you fancy as long as it's not bucket loads. Poor nutritional calories don't satisfy the inner me! Over the past 2 weeks I've been cutting back on a lot of processed things except for occasional treats & I've lost 6 pounds. YAYHOO. I've also lost my insatiable appetite which had caused me to gain 15 pounds in 7 weeks. Is that a record? :) I've also heard that artificial sweeteners actually cause the body to crave sugar more. But I'm afraid I can't remember where I read it. And fat is what satisfies our appetite the quickest. Just not loads of it. Too much is too much for any food. Cheers to all BTW sorry, but what is COPD? I understand its a health prob but I don't recognise the abbreviation. Take care x alison :) Kick the Herb to the Kerb My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 77 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,314 Amount Saved: $962.5 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 22 Mins: 18 Seconds: 57

Well, I feel like a great big, fat, pig. So, I totally understand. And my problem since I quit smoking, is that I want to EAT. I've been a competitive bodybuilder, I know more about nutrition and losing body fat than I'd care to admit at the moment. The problem isn't knowing what to eat or not to eat, its sticking to the darn diet. Arg.. I'm trying not to let the wieght get me down, but I feel like the blueberry girl in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. (figures, I think about a movie about FOOD ;-).
