Halleluia !! Making it thru my first day with some very minor moments of trouble. This morning was the toughest with the paper & coffee - I thought it would be, so I was ready, I guess. I did alot of getting up when I would look down to where my smokes usually are - it made me smile a little as I told myself 'Oh god, self, you're doing it'-- & went quickly on to interest in something else. My sons are with me now too so that makes it alot easier -- I told them that today is my quit day & they said 'good mom - that's good' I know that they are thinking that I may not be able to do it & I know that they want me to so bad. I'm really trying - & I'm feeling pretty positive- so far so good. I really enjoy & USE reading all of your comments out there. Your stories really help me keep the faith -- thank you all very much for being there. SO ------------ today was Day 1 of the rest of my life --

Great start Debi, You are on your way this journey will be the most fun that you have all year...(well maybe not the most fun) certainly the biggest memory that you will have for the year. Quitting smoking is a great big step. You have good days, and not so good days. But if you just hang on one minute at a time, you will get through it. Rules are simple.. because the lack of nicotine makes it hard to focus sometimes. 1. Never put a ciggerette in your mouth. 2. Don't light up 3. Not one puff ever! Stay with them, and you will soon be celebrating your anniversary. Don't forget to get yourself rewards often. Little things to cheer your spirit. They help. And you can afford them because you no longer smoke. Congratulations, Debi. You've made it through your first smoke-free day and survived! LOL. Seriously, this is a fantastic step you've taken for yourself and those around you. Be proud of this day, and all the ones to follow. You're also setting a fine example for your sons and that is a wonderful thing, too. Don't forget to reward yourself often. At least daily right at first. Rewards are so crucial to the healing process, both physically and emotionally. They don't have to cost much, if anything at all. They just need to make you smile or feel good about yourself. In fact, many of the best rewards are free. Take a few minutes a day just for you. Pause to watch a sunset, or stroll through a park (or window shopping), take the long way home, watch a child play with his/her pet, or just relax and take stock of the wonderful changes happening in your new smoke-free body. Keep up the good quit, Debi. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 481 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,639 Amount Saved: $1827.8 Life Gained: Days: 89 Hrs: 20 Mins: 28 Seconds: 58
