Hi, Belle! I'm new here too and I just thought I would say hello. I've never replied to anyone before so I don't really have any helpful tips to offer you except, I'm glad you're here! :)Text

Hi Belle, I'm sorry I was so "upbeat" during a time when you are feeling so down. I understand that sometimes even the most positive thinking won't help these tihngs. Believe me. My panic attacks have been coming on about 6 times today. I'm getting ready for my period. There not as bad though as they were four weeks ago when I first started getting them.I've learned since then how to tell when its coming because mine in particular starts in the form of a very swoozy like dizziness that creeps fast. Before when I felt this, it would be followed shortly by a racing heartbeat and shakiness and fear. I stopped that part though because that is the flight response part. Ya the first two times I had them I went running to the hospital. I thought for sure I was having a heart attack. All I knew was "something is wrong." I would like to ask you about you having these since you were a child. Were they always full blown symptoms of Panic Attack or were they generalized anxiety? What are your symptoms? How do they start? I would be interested in knowing. I'm doing my own research on this thing Thanks

Thank you all so very much. :) your words of comfort mean a lot to me. It's so miserable to be feeling fine for so long, only to have these horrible panic attacks EVERYDAY for weeks now. I am pretty much off of Prozac now... I came off of it rather quickly, which I'm sure didn't help matters much. My psych who gave me the meds never returned my calls to tell me how to properly come off of them, so I just tried my best. I've tried to "let go" when I feel panic striking...to relax....to breathe deep. But somehow, it seems the panic is stronger than my belief in these techniques...and it overcomes me. Does it just take practice, or is my panic just extra bad?

Hi Belle, I am new to this group too. In fact I just signed up. I wanted to tell you that I understand exactly how you are feeling! This "thing" comes along and seemingly takes control of your whole life and before you know it you're taking all kinds of drugs and feeling like ur whole life is one giant "Panic Attack". This is what I think you should know. You are not alone in this. Do you understand me? I promise you that this too will pass. You will find a way to fight this and so will I. I think the first thing we have to do is accept the simple fact that it's happening. That doesn't mean we have to accept the "reasons why" it is. Just that we have a problem that we have to face and there's no way we're going to get thru it unless we acknowledge it's there. Here's my theory: This could be hormones. There is no doubt that studies have shown a strong correlation between hormone imbalances (low or high) and PD. I think we should be checked for this first. I feel too many women and men alike are told immediately without hesitation that they need to be on SSRI's, Benzodiazepines or any other drug they can stuff down our throats to get us out of their hair. The fact is...they don't know. Some people do show signs of improvement with these medications though so i'm not saying they don't work. I am saying however, that there can be other indicators of a biological nature that can cause people to have these things. Now lets say we do find out our hormones are "off" in some way, now what do we do? Especially when some women get told that this has nothing to do with their recent arrival of "panic attacks". I think there is alot we can do. We can research this topic everywhere possible and do our best to find an appropriate and healthy approach to it. For example there are many natural things we can do to increase support of our endocrine systems such as supplements and special formulas derived by health food experts such as NONI juice, Vitex ect. These things are not hormone replacements but rather help to regulate your already existing hormone levels to a healthy balance. They may not work for everyone, but maybe some of us would get a positive effect from it. Here is my personal suggestion in regard to those attacks, when you feel one co

Hi, Belle. Welcome to the site and to the group. Sometimes it takes a while to find the right meds and right combo for you. Keep talking to your doctor about it and be sure to say how they presently affect you and help or don't help enough. CBT is not an overnight miracle. It advances you through this condition in baby steps. Keep doing the homework, one week at a time. It does work, but it's a journey of self-discovery and gradual improvement. Sometimes it doesn't seem like you're getting ahead, but don't give up on it. If you stick to it, it will help.

I am deeply grateful just to have found a website like this. I need help. I'm a stay-at-home mom (29 years old).. I've been experiencing panic attacks since I was a child. I've tried SO MANY different meds: effexor, prozac, zoloft, xanax.. nothing has really helped. Xanax does help decrease a panic attack, but lately, I've been taking it everyday because my anxiety has gotten so bad, but I dont' want to because I know it can be addictive. I'm currently in CBT once a week... but I must say I feel so "unstable" that I don't feel it's working. I'm wondering if I have a chemical imbalance, am I hypoglycemic? I just don't know anymore. I'm going in a week to have blood drawn to test my hormones and such. I just am so confused. Does anyone have any advice? I'm looking forward to talking with all of you. :) Belle
