How do I freshen up my relationship with my quit???

Noooo Chicken you dont want to smoke! 1. Deep breathing - in - out (has the same feeling as having a cigarette - yet its free and doesnt do you damage). In through your nose, slowly out through your mouth. Why did you give up smoking? Tell me, what were your reasons? 18 days is good going.. from my experience, its a tough one. You are starting to forget WHY you wanted to quit. Those motivations and reasons seem further away (you might have wanted to quit to save some money or feel better in your health) Well now you havent been smoking 18 days, you probably have more money in your pocket and feel more healthy. Just remember how filthy and dirty those cigarettes are. Remember how they made you feel. REmember when your life was dictated to by nicotine? Stick with it, it will get better... honestly!! This week my mind has been throwing up future excuses to have "a" smoke. I've been through it all in my head and know there is never a reason to have a smoke but for some reason no matter how I try I just can't get the excitement up about not smoking like I had at the start. I'm telling myself but I'm not really feeling it. It's like a used car salesman is talking to me and I have to listen.... I think I'm getting bored of the same battle and same conversations with myself a million times a day. I hope that sparks someone into saying something that sparks me up again, I feel like I need a good kick up the bum. How do I freshen up my relationship with my quit??? I don't feel a victory every morning and evening anymore even though I still have battles. I've not been sleeping well for a couple of weeks now, I don't think it's due to not smoking, we've just had abit going on recently buying property and organising a transfer to London from Oz which is happening very quickly. Maybe I'm just tired full stop. It's seems crazy to be taking this quit for granted when I've worked so hard yet even knowing that doesn't change this dull unfeeling inside that I could take it or leave it or can't be bothered with it kind of thing...I must be nuts! Ok ... so you can't get the excitement up about not smoking. OK, I can see that. But please tell me this ... How are you able to get excitement up to smoke again? I mean are you serious? Are your really excited to smoke a cigarette? The mental image I am getting is of someone jumping up and down like a kid saying yes give me a smoke, I am so excited ... I can't wait to spend my money on something that does absolutely nothing for me except shave years off my life and keep me from living each day to the fullest. How does one get excited about a pack of lies? I want it to hurry up, but I know that it can't. I need for time to pass. I need to experience 'triggers' and distance myself from them. I need to make life changes. I need to develop healthy habits to replace the unhealthy lie. I need to train my brain to redirect more quickly. Are you sure that you have addressed all that needs to be addressed as far as your recovery goes? IMO we still have a lot of work to do. Get excited about a new aspect of your quit. For me the beginning excitement of my quit is over. I have now moved on to 'dealing with my emotions & stresses' without smokes. After I think I have a handle on that ... I will move to the next phase of my recovery. Are you sticking to rewarding yourself? Something free and small everyday, a little something something each week. And then planned rewards on a monthly basis? It does not seems crazy for you to be taking your quit for granted. It IS crazy to take your quit for granted. Claim your Quit. It is yours. It is a part of who you are now. btw... Chicken Licken - It's time to re-commit to your Quit. Do you want to smoke again or do you want to protect your Quit and keep staying Quit. Which one is the right decision for you? Find the passion for your Quit again, if you don't, well your Quit may not survive... In the meantime, since you are bored 'with the same conversations and the same battle everyday' - have a new conversation. What about, just reminding yourself you're not a smoker, than you Quit and add all of your own words... It's tough stuff this Quit journey, and any of us can lose our Quit at any time. It's a decision to smoke or not smoke. Which do you choose just for today? Hi Chicken L! I so much relate to what you are saying. I wish I Could give you some good advice - but I can't! I feel exactly the way you do and I'm almost 4 months quit! This is a constant battle and I think we need to remember that it will be for a while. We had all this milestones in the beginning which we were so very proud over (with all rights) and now it seems like we are supposed to be "over it". (I think so myself) Maybe we should think a little bit more about rewarding ourself? It sounds like you may be a bit depressed, Chicken. Have you been rewarding yourself lately? Rewards are still very important to the healing process, and will be for several months to come. Don't forget them or dismiss them. Also, it sounds like some serious distraction is in order. I understand you're quite busy right now, but maybe a day trip to somewhere you've never been? Or doing something you haven't done in a while (something you couldn't smoke while doing is best)?
