Addiction: Habitual psychological and physiological dependence on a substance or practice beyond one's voluntary control. (as heroin, nicotine, or alcohol)
Nicotine: A colorless, poisonous alkaloid derived from the tobacco plant and used as an insecticide.
Once I realized that my smoking was more than a bad habit, I began to view it in a different light. I am a nicotine addict. Just as an alcoholic cannot have another drink, or a heroin addict cannot have another fix, I cannot have another puff.
Not One Puff Ever (NOPE) is a serious commitment that I have made to myself. I am aware that if I ever have one puff I will be a smoker again. It doesnt matter how long we are quit; one day, one month, one year or ten years. One puff awakens the addiction and if I take that puff, I am a smoker again just as one drink awakens the alcoholic, and one fix awakens the heroin junkie.
Addiction ruins our lives and keeps us from being productive, healthy adults. This includes smoking. I am amazed at the control smoking had on my life. I use to be afraid to quit and think it was too hard and just not worth it. Quitting is hard but it is doable and it is worth every bit of agony you may be going through now. So grab a hold of NOPE and hang on tight.
