Hiya Marie -
Here is my opinion on this...
I know when I smoked if someone came and started preaching to me about quitting it mostly just pissed me off. It did so for various reasons. Obviously one of them was jealousy and discomfort. I knew I would love to be a quit person but that I wasn't. The other was the hypocrisy of it. I feel comfortable saying that most smokers would like to quit but can't bring themselves to do it and felt just as I did when someone ELSE came to them and preached 'The Quit'. So where do you get off doing the same damn thing to me?!
Heh. I hope that makes sense. I don't think it did.
Anyways, because of that I don't preach it. I lead by example and I will mention it when it comes up. If I see one of my friends going to smoke I'll casually say something like 'Wow, do you realize it's almost been 6 months now for me!' or the old 'Heh. I'm STILL finding lighters around the house!' stuff. If the conversation goes from there (Things like 'Wow, 6 months already? That's so cool') I'll start doing things like mentioning this site, how I made it through the quit, etc etc. Things to really try to drive home that they can do it too.
I will NOT bring it up out of the blue. I will NOT give the old 'Man you really should quit' speech. I won't be the sort of quitter that pissed me off when I was still smoking.
Just one guys opinion!
