Fear of travel

Shellie's dilemma. I have been dealing with anxiety since 2000. Since than I have made one cross country driving trip from CT to WA. (military move) It completely stressed me out leaving me in a severe panic sticken state once here. SInce than little by little its becme harder and harder for me to drive outside our county. Especially over bridges and heaven help those in the car with me if there is the tiniest of traffic jams. GRRR... But we are now faced with a decision of moving with the military from WA to HI. Have lived there before. But was over 10 yrs ago. This means a drive with someone else ( I have motion sickness on top of anxiety so normally I do 100 percent of all driving) to airport outside of county, a 6-7 hours flight with my hubby and 3 kids to HI (haven't flown in 10 yrs) and than another drive with someone else Not me driving to a car rental place. The simple thoughts of this are killing me and are only the icing on the cake. Cause once there I will have to endure the outings my husband will have (6 month min to 9 month max each year). It was the 6 month deployments in 2000 which originally brought on my panic attacks. Hubby and I know this MOVE would be a good career move but we both FEAR what we'll be going through. =0(

I fear anything that requires me to be on the road or whatever transportation outside of our county. It used to be a further radius but for some reason keeps shortening. I can do a bit better if its just me in the car but if kids and hubby, or a friend are in there the attacks jump on me.

I have the same problem to the last trip I took was to my dad's funeral and since then I haven't travel no were and that was 2 years ago. The farest I have been is to the store and that iself is a chore. So I know what you are talking about, you want to go somewhere so bad but fear steps in and you don't do it.I try closing my eyes when I go to the store, (I don't drive)praying all the way there. I wish you lots of luck and hopefully one day we will over come all of our fears.

Hi everyone, Ive finally managed to log in! I am a new member, and I used to have agoraphobia when I was younger, I live in England by the way, but now, I can move around my home city quite freely, its taken years of practice to get this far though. Ive just come back from a weeks holiday in Devon, and being there reminded me of the life I used to have in Australia, I would like to go back there to live with my whole family, who also want to go, but eeeeek what a scary prospect! How could I ever cope with the plane journey, and setting up a whole new life! Any ideas for this out there???!!

I have been bound to a 30 mile radius of my house for years. I have to travel now. :( What are some of the coping mechanisms you guys have used to travel away from home, whether driving, flying, bus, etc. I'm going to a big museum 3 hours from home and spending the night with 3 friends. I am so scared and it's weeks away! Is the anticipation worse than the actual trip? What were your gameplans for getting into the world again? I have ativan to use if needed but i have never taken it before and have no idea what to expect should I take it. I'd like to do it without the med. I don't want to cancel the trip and ruin it for everyone especially when I made a bargain with my best friend and she held up her end. Thanks for any help you can give at all! :) Kie
