Oh Navigator, Thank you, thank you, thank you........ That article really did it for me. That's exactly what I've been feeling but couldn't get into words. I quit smoking last year - and I now can't even remember the event or whatever that made me begin again after 8 months, but I started up again this past Spring. Even tho it made me feel horrible, not just mentally but physically too. I just feel back into it. Then yesterday I was sitting here smoking and having a cup of tea, berating myself for being so weak thinking how awful it tasted and it was like a light bulb was turned on. I simply realized that I needed to be more proactive, get control and pitch the pack........ Ok here I am today feeling quite lousy, really bad actually, but I know it will pass and I know this time will be different because I am different. I'm not feeling as tho I am loosing an old buddy. I am glad to be rid of that thing that controls so much of my day. I am more confident, I already know I can get through these initial cravings and I know I want to and actually have to for health reasons. I'm so glad I found the SSC site. Almost no one that I know smokes. YOu would think that was a good thing and in the long run it will be. However, for today no one really gets what a challenge this is or how terrible I feel. I am having cravings, I have a headache and a stomach ache, I am extremely irritable - and I am going to take a nap and try to sleep through it. Sorry to be so lengthy - just babbling on when I really just wanted to thank you all........ Catch ya later! cj

If You Want To Change Your Life, Change Your Mind" Thank you so much. What an incredibly positive article. I've been so excited about this quit and so positive. Something keeps telling me that if I let go of this positive attitude I'll run screaming and August 1, 2006 will just be another day filled with smoking and sadness. I can't change the fact that 14 months ago I started smoking again...if I had a time machine trust me I would go back in time and smack myself silly :8o: but I can't. I can however, do something about my attitude now. My attitude about smoking, about my health, about my family and about life in general. August 1, 2006 is going to be the day I change my mind and begin a new life. Thank you for helping me get one step closer to that :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: -18 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

I don't remember where I got this article, but with all the new people joining I'd thought I'd post this excellant read. Think for a moment of your life as a tightly woven piece of fabric. Each thread represents the events and experiences youve had. And running alongside all of the many "life" threads are threads of a finer gauge. So fine in fact, theyre impossible to see with the naked eye. Those threads are your smoking habit, and theyve become so interwoven in the fabric of your life, you find you cant do anything without thinking about how smoking will fit into it. The associations that we build up over a lifetime between the activities in our lives and smoking are very closely knit. Once you quit smoking, your job becomes one of unraveling those smoking threads, or associations, one by one. How does that happen? And how long does it take? Practice Makes Perfect Recovery from this addiction is a process of gradual release over time. Every smoke free day you complete is teaching you how to live your life without cigarettes. Bit by bit, youre reprogramming your responses to the daily events that trigger the urge to smoke. The more practice you get, the less urges will plague you. Over the course of your first smoke free year, you'll encounter most of the events and situations in your daily life that you associate with smoking. Some smoking triggers are seasonal in nature and can create strong urges to smoke months into your quit. For instance, if you quit smoking during the winter and you're an avid gardener, you could find yourself craving a smoke break the first time you're out digging in the dirt the following Spring. It may hit you with an intensity you haven't felt in months. Don't worry! Once you make your way through the trigger smoke free, you'll move on with ease. The first year is all about firsts...experiencing the many daily events in your life smoke free for the first time. And, it's all about practice. You built your smoking habit through years of practice. Now, build the nonsmoking you the same way. Practice is a necessary part of recovery, so try to relax and let time help you. The more of it you put between yourself and that last cigarette you smoked, the stronger youll become. Its All In The Attitude With that
