MistyMoon, eight days quit--that is so terrific! Since you did cold turkey(me too)the nicotine is out of your system. Of course you will still have withdrawals, because you are a nicotime addict. We all are. Drinking alot of ice water, chewing ridiculous amounts of sugar-free gum and deep breaths helped me in the beginning. My hat is off to you, it sounds like you have many crazy things going on. The important thing is that YOU DID NOT SMOKE!!!!!How awesome is that?!You did the right thing by coming here and posting. Visit this site often and work the program to the left-and remember N.O.P.E-Not One Puff Ever. It would only take one puff for me to be back to smoking and I Won't do it. I'm loving my non-smoking life. No more smelly fingers, no more hiding from the public when I "need" a smoke when I'm out and about. My car smells wonderful. My home smells wonderful, too. You have animals, I too have animals-you don't need to have stale cigarette smoke in your house too. There are so many reasons to be a non-smoker and no good reasons smoke. When the nicotine addict is telling you to smoke, take a deep breath instead and feel your lungs getting clearer and stronger. Keep up the great work!! Holy crap, you are a super hero to have gotten thru hell week cold turkey with all of that chaos going on. God bless you :) When I read of someone who is truly suffering to the point that it is threatening their quit, I always suggest NRT's. Get some gum or the patch....I liked the lozenges....to take the edge off. The downside is that the nicotine is out of your body but after smoking 3 packs a day, the craving must be excruciating. Also, wellbutrin, an antidepressant is helpful to some. You may want to see your doc. I hope this information is helpful. Quitting is very doable. And it really does get easier. Do you have a car? Take the baby for a nice long ride. And you need to sneak in some naps. Misty, Glad you finally got a chance to relax. That can make all the difference in the world. I've always been a heavy water drinker. When I quit smoking, I had that horrible taste of a cigarette in my mouth and couldn't get rid of it for anything. Someone here suggested drinking ice water to help. Yes, the ice water was wonderful! It helped to take the cravings away too. Deep breaths and lots of ice water. Your sanity will return, it hasn't gone far :p . We all lose it when we first quit. You will have emotional days just as you have the past couple but remember how you feel now. The pride of making it through those tough times. Each situation you make it through without smoking makes you that much stronger for the next. I call it taking one step at a time and you seem to be doing a fine job of that. Look at your METER! 8 Days! 8 Days without smoking. Have you ever done that before????? Feels Awesome Huh? :) You are a quitter! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 389 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,784 Amount Saved: $1361.5 Life Gained: Days: 34 Hrs: 7 Mins: 17 Seconds: 22

MistyMoon.... Believe it or not, everything you are going through is normal. You are going through a lot and doing a fine job. I want you to know that I am very proud of you. Dispite the trials you have faced, you have been strong and chosen not to smoke. I commend you. What an awesome character of strength you posses. Remember that you have chosen not to smoke and this is a choice that is going to change your world. Keep taking one step at a time. You are really going to love being a non-smoker. This isn't a life sentence you embarking on, it is a world of freedom. Misty Moon. First of all, congratulations on making it through Hell week. Sounds like you have a lot on your plate. Start by taking some really deep breaths. You did the right thing by coming here and asking for support. You unloaded a lot of stuff here on this thread so now let go of it. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe. Try not to make any rational decisions right now. You are going through a very difficult time with quitting smoking and that is the only thing you should focus on (other than those precious children of yours of course). I'm a single parent of three so I know what it is like to have them all on your own and have a baby that doesn't want to do anything but cry. Try to calm yourself. This is a temporary state of being and it will pass. The baby will get older, your anxiety from quitting will go away and you will be a much stronger, healthier person in the long run. Don't worry about issues with the hubby right now. You can deal with that later when you are stronger. When we quit, it is actually a time in life when we are allowed to be selfish. Rewards don't have to be huge or take a lot of time or money. They just need to be there for you so when you are setting up your rewards make sure they are obtainable and that you only rely on yourself for the payout. That way no one can disappoint you and make you feel cheated. Quitting is a long difficult process and can be really hard when your life is already full. But you CAN do it. I work full time, have the 3 kids, and was in school full time when I quit. I think that because of how busy I was, it actually helped. Try to keep a positive attitude. You said the kids go back to school today. Wonderful! Now it is just you and that precious baby! Hubby is gone to work so you have total peace. Sing to the baby, dance around the room with he/she in your arms, count their fingers and toes, watch the baby sleep. These are joys in life that you only get an oppotunity to enjoy for a limited time. Make the most of them. Doing these things will also take your mind off of smoking. The glass is always half full and not half empty Misty Moon. During those times when you just feel like crying (I know they are there) go ahead and let it all out. It releases a lot of tension.

Sleep can make such a difference in one's outlook on life. I know that from going through menopause....the sleep deprivation was the worst part for me. Crazy making. Glad you are feeling better today. My heart really went out to you when I read all you were dealing with. The best advice I have involves two things 1) break it down and take each thing at a time. Then things do not seem so overwhelming if they are in manageable pieces. Right now, you are working on one of the hugest problems any one of us could have. That is addiction. Get that problem licked before you tackle something else. And likewise, tackle that problem one crave at a time, one hour at a time, one day at a time. Less overwhelming that way. 2) Secondly is to recognize that while you are going through withdrawal over the next while, make NO major decisions about anything else in your life. Withdrawal involves a temporary loss of sanity, and clarity is elusive at best. It's just like they advise people grieving over the death of a spouse or a child to not make any life changing decisions. We are in grief too - though WHY I ever grieved over the loss of those smelly, expensive, death sticks is a mystery to me! Human nature is amazing. Best wishes, Misty. Misty, how overwhelmed you must feel. But your last paragraph was right on target:
If i'm going to do this then i'm going to have to take full repsonsibility for my rewards each day and making sure that my needs are met
This is key. You must take care of your needs to be able to take care of others. You know how they tell you on airplanes that if the oxygen mask drops down, get YOUR oxygen first and then give it to others? You have to do that. It is imperative. Look at you - 7 days in, 399 not smoked, $92 saved! Time for a reward for YOU. Take the baby and go to a pleasant place today. A place where you can breathe and think clearly. Give yourself hugs...they are most important coming from you. If they happen to come from anybody else, that's gravy. Misty, We're right there with you :) Stay close to the site and let us take on some of the pressure you're feeling. You certainly have a lot of stress in your life right now, but smoking won't change that. You've done brilliantly and 7 days is simply fantastic. Don't overwhelm yourself. Just take this quit one hour or one minute at a time...ok? Remember - today you CHOOSE not to smoke :) Stay tough! Rachel :) Two years, four months, three weeks, four days, 22 hours, 28 minutes and 28 seconds. 17538 cigarettes not smoked, saving 3,946.03. Life saved: 8 weeks, 4 days, 21 hours, 30 minutes.
