Day 25 & I Can't Sleep & I've Got Diarrhea

for 18 år siden 0 1904 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Actaully, the diarrhea didn't start right away. I think i've had it for the past week. Some of it may be caused by this diabetes pill I'm taking. I told the doctor when she prescibe it, that I would give it one week. While the one week is really only two days. I told her that the pill makes me nauseous. This time I think it has caused the diarrhea. However, I still this I have some gastrointestinal problems. I just saw the doctor July 31st and will see her again August 14th. Funny, the diabetes has disappeared again, and I have been drinking juice and soda and eating whatever I want. The diabestes seems to be induced by my bipolar meds. As soon as I stop as certain class of them, my blood sugar always falls. When I tried to quit a little over a year ago being half this sick was too much for me, so I started back smoking. I just wish I could sleep for more than one hour at a time. Having bipolar disorder probably is not helping here. I'm just wondering how long this stomach upset will last? I don't think doctors, especially psychiatrists, know how to differentiate psych symptoms from quit smoking symptoms, at least they seem to be lousing at it. (I will be working to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner next year.) Generally, all insomnia is considered symptoms of bipolar disorder. It may be true that i do become manic when quitting smoking. I've become manic the last two times I quit. Last year, it scared me into starting back. This year I've just let myself be a little up. Now I'm taking the anti-mania med that is supposed to knock me out, along with a med to knock me out. I'm only allowed to take only one over the counter med, which I'm not allowed to mention here. But no, it is not melatonin. I am not allowed to take that one. Didn't want to say the name, but you're right. The Metformin nearly kills me. I told the doctor I couldn't take it. I go to a teaching hospital where the doctors rotate. Considering my BSL has now droppped to 93 without my help. I may take nothing. However, I may stop drinking soda pop and Nestle Quik. Doctors need to be more highly educated in regards to nicotine withdrawal and side effects. They just don't know. I don't think many of them can either. I'm hoping that mine can, as he scheduled me an appointment for a certain amount of time after I quit. But, my blood pressure is up, and my blood sugar is up, and i'm afraid of being stuck on tons of pills for something that might just go away once I have a chance to even out after this. As much information that is out there for quitters, I just feel like i'm in the dark about a few things, and cessation counselors and the like just tell you to go to the doctor.. who hasn't spent as much time as they have in the area of quit smoking. Yes, they can make sure you're gonna live, not having a stroke, not dying some other way, and they can treet your symptoms.. but they don't -really- know. It's rough for a person like me... and I can see it is for you too. I make a big effort to know exactly what's going on with my body all the time, and things are happeneing that I don't understand,a nd there doesn't seem to be anywhere to find out. Doctor likely doesn't know, and people who might know are worried about being sued for giving medical advise online. If you're taking metformin/glucophage (you mentioned that you were taking a new diabetes pill, and that may be it.. the only reason i'm mentioning this.) That gives me the runs really badly, and I absolutely can't take it. neither can my mother. It's a known side effect for some people. My doctor told me that it was a wonder drug and people were even able to loose weight on it and everything.. I told him they were loosing weight because they were always on the toilet. Though - there's also a flu bug going around I hear, and many of us are getting it, so I would wait long enough to rule that out, and call my doctor right away on monday. Also, there's no shame in asking your doctor to give you something to reset your sleep schedule. I would call the same doctor that treets your bi-polar issues. You'll need to pay attention to your body a little bit so that they can give you the right pill though.. They'll need to know if you're having trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, or both. OK? They usualy just give a couple week's worth and that resets your body's sleep schedule. Also, for your sleeping.. Try setting yourself up a bedtime routine. Write it down, so that you know what to do when, and always do the exact same thing at the exact same time every night. Your routine should start with shutting off all electronics - the computer, the TV.. leave just enough lights on to find your way around. Brush your teeth and whatever else you do at night, and then spend some quiet time in the low light. The low light helps your body produce the horemones needed for sleeping. These horemones need darkness to produce, and this is what sets our sleep pattern. OK? No lights, nightlights, or clocks in your room.. and make sure no lights from outside are coming in. I did all of this, and it has done utter wonders for me, and it sure can't ever hurt anything either.. it's just relaxation, darkness, a consistant routine, and turning off your stimulant sources. Misty Moon & Bgaineshunter, I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble getting good medical advice from your doctor. All I can say is to keep trying. Misty, I know it's frustrating to come to us looking for answers only to have us tell you to go see your doctor. Unfortunately, we cannot in good conscience advise you because it doesn't fall within our scope of practice as nurses and we don't know every inch of your medical history. I should also remind you both that these forums are to remain on smoking cessation not on other illnesses. Thank you both for your cooperation and I hope you feel better soon bgaines. Bgaines hunter, Take good care of yourself in the days to come. Please see your doctor sooner that the 14th if the diarrhea persists or worsens. To combat sleeping disturbances try keeping a regular sleep schedule. Going to bed and getting up at the same time everyday. Also try physical activity 5-6 hours before bed. Hang in there, this is will get better! Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

B, you have a variety of physical symptoms, any of which could be caused by the diabetes, the bipolar, or the meds for either of those. Only your doctor can help you sort all of that out. Just be careful not to let the junkie-monkey trick you into thinking it's about quitting smoking like last time. I hope you feel better soon! Be sure to drink plenty of water.
