bgainshunter, I went cold turkey because I bought some smoke away, but after a couple of days, I realized that it was causing horrible side effects like really vivid dreams and headaches, so after 3 days, I stopped using it and went cold turkey. I too had some patches that my roommate had given me from her numerous failed quit attempts, but never used them... in fact, I think I still have them. :confuse: So anyway, I went cold turkey because I didn't like the side effects of the aid I decided to use. I also didn't use the patches because I wanted the nicotine out of my system faster, but that's just me. Crave the Quit! I had patches, gum, and lozenges on my coffee table, but still decided to go cold turkey. I think becuae I knew that at some point I would have to, and I wanted to get it over with faster. I looked at everything and decided that to quit, I was just going to have to stop doing nicotine. I hope the sickness that ensued will help me to stay clean of nicotine. I got quite sick while withdrawing. Smoked two packs a day. I cut down for a coupel of days from 3 packs to 1 and a half and I went through such bad withdrawals that I couldn't smoke enough ciggies to make it quit hurting. I had 2 boxes of patches ready but I realised after I cut down that putting any nicotine in my body at all was just going to make the withdrawals last longer. I educated myself on the internet, and learned that ALL of the nicotine in my body would be out in 72 hours, and my withdrawals would last 1-2 weeks, and then i would know that it was over. Im like most others who have replied. I didnt think it necessary to prolong the inveitable. Had bought a full pack the night before, smoked two out of the pack and that was it - Just quit. Even though it was a few weeks ago, it feels like it was months ago that i quit. I found cold turkey the best way for me. Just like you, we wanted to get it over with a.s.a.p. And we weren't really aware of how much stuff is out there. We only knew of patches and gum. Simple as that really. No regrets about going cold turkey. For us I think it was the best way. And cheaper too (hey, I'm Dutch, deep pockets, short arms...). Sorry Dutch Fini, grapje! I found that my patches were just drawing out the withdrawal process for me so I quit using them. I used the gum for a couple of days. I didn't like the way it felt in my mouth. Then I read on another site about the evilness of NRTs and that gave me the excuse I wanted to quit cold turkey. Mind you, I don't think they're evil...that other site did.
