Auctionman, I think you feel like the bad guy because you've essentially been told you are. I'm no relationship counselor, I don't have any pieces of paper to hang on the wall to say I'm smart in that area, but IMO, there should not be boundaries between a man and his wife. To me, that violates a basic tenant of a marraige/relationship. It should not be you and yours against her and hers. You are a family, not roomies.
OK, on to not smoking. It does appear you have picked a bad time to quit, but then any time is a bad time. Some are just worse than others. I've seen people here who have successfully quit even though their spouse/significant other left "because of the quit", so they said.
Hang in there, auctionman. Smoking won't fix anything in your life. It may appear to provide some relief, but that's not real relief, just a sham, a lie. Stay smoke-free one minute at a time, if that's what it takes.
