My wife and I are haveing a real difficult time right now! I have a 20 yo daughter and her a 19 yo daughter both living with us! My daughter told me today that my step daughter is using cocaine!,,Due to all the problems we are having I really debated on how to handle this! We actually had a therapy session this after noon, at the end of the session I requested 5 mins alone with him just to ask his advice,,,he says no your time is up and we have to set bounderies, so I stated well guess i will just have to talk to my wife and let the chips fall where they may! He states to my wife and you have the choice to listen or not you have boundeies as well!, So I think about it on the way home and I say I cant live with myself if i dont say anything and something happens to her,,I could never forgive myself! So when the wife gets home she decides she now has bounderies as well and say if I have anything to say about her daughter to say it to her,,and she didnt want to hear it!!,,But I said this is an important issue something YOU as a parent NEEDS to know! So I said your daughter is using cocaine! At that time my DW become insenced!!! and proclaims I crossed the (new) bounderies she had found! and didnt matter what it was I should of not said anything!!,,MY HEART SANK!!! So my DW call her daughter who is suppose to be at work till close, but her work said oh she got off at 4 today!! and it was not at home! When she did arrive my DW confronted her and she TOTALLY denied ever saying that she did and that she has never done it!,,and my wife believed ever single word,,making me the BAD guy once again! Did i do the right thing????

HI, JUST REMEMBER A SMOKING ADDICTION IS JUST AS HARDER TO GIVE UP AS A COCAINE ADDICTION. tHEY ARE BOTH ADDICTIONS ANYWAY YOU LOOK AT IT SO IF YOUR STEP DAUGHTER HEARS COMMENTS FROM YOU THEY WILL BE COMING FROM SOMEONE WHO IS CLEAN AND THAT HOLDS ALOT OF WEIGHT IN MY BOOK. I hear you! My husband and I have 5 kids. We have been through drug usuage, alcohol and mental illness with them. Like you, I have always been the "bad" guy because I do not like to sweep things under the rug and choose to face them head-on. My husband, mother and mother-in-law stick their head in the sand in hopes that it will just "go away" on it's own. They don't even want to discuss or acknowledge a problem until it's festered and explodes out of control! They buy into the lies, etc... No sir, YOU are doing the right thing. Later on your wife will realize that (try not to gloat! :)) And I agree that you ought to explore a different therapist. Good luck. Prayer and good wishes coming at ya! I'm proud of you for not smoking during such a stressful time.
