Positive Attitude
As with all things in life, attitude is everything! If you go into a quit thinking that youre going to fail, guess what??? You probably will! Henry Ford said, "Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you're right. Its all in your attitude.
Changing your attitude means consciously changing the way you view yourself, your quit and your life. Obviously, way easier said than done! Since the majority of quitting is a mental battle with yourself (see One Year Ramble Part 4 Strength for more on this), its only logical that having an easy quit or a hard quit depends on you and how you view yourself and your quit. Granted, there will be people who will have more difficult quits due to extenuating circumstances, but if youre having a difficult quit, then check your attitude first.
One way to help you retrain yourself to have a positive attitude is to remind yourself to have a positive attitude. What I mean by this is get some little happy face stickers or star stickers and put them in various places around your house, your office or wherever you spend a lot of time. Every time you look at one, think hows my attitude right now? If you dont have the best attitude at that moment, ask yourself why and what you can do to change it. Doing this for a few weeks will train yourself to think more positively. I know it sounds stupid, but if you do it, it really does work! I promise!
Theres a saying, act cheerful to be cheerful. This means that if you have to go through the motions for a while and pretend to be happy, perhaps thats all it will take for you to actually BECOME happy. If you focus on the negative and about how horrible your life and this quitting experience are, then no wonder you have a bad attitude! Try to focus on the positive in your life. Start small with doing this just once or twice a day and see if you cant work your way up.
Having a bad day? Thats OK. There will be some days when no matter what you do, you wont have a positive attitude. But the key is that those days are far less than the other days when you CAN change your attitude. And if you find yourself having more bad days when you cant change your attitude than days when you are able to have a positive attitude
