I'm right with Monica on this one -- every damn day presents its own challenges, most of which are unexpected and therefore really difficult to face.
Me, I'm all about the milestones (3 days, nicotine gone; Week 1, Hell Week; Week 3, unexpected relapse week;) -- but they've proven more "fluid" than I've been able to rely on.
Every time I think I've turned a corner and can "breathe easier," so to speak, some old trigger or crave or habitual thing or the just the devil himself is lurking right there, telling me that one hit off someone else's cigarette won't do a bit of damage. Yeah, right.
Fortunately, in addition to the ubiquitous nicodemons, we have, as my friend dunedude so astutely pointed out on a different thread, nico-angels (as oppsed to necco wafers?), who stand between us and our "slips," which is a euphomism for screw-ups.
Every damn day is hard -- sometimes harder than the one that came before it (ask Monica). But every day brings a new army of nico-angels to help us fight the good fight and run the good race.
(I hope this doesn't sound churchy --- total agnostics can have angels, right??) Me, I gotta have someone stronger than me on my side. I'd be in the gutter without them.
