Good topic holygeez (love your name)!
It's really interesting to see the differences in prices in different countries and even continents.
Here in British Columbia, Canada the cost varies depending on the brand and where you buy them. Most cartons average around $80.00. The cheapest (all packs of 20 including taxes) I've heard of is $7.25 for generic types, average price for pack of well known brand names is around $9.00 and some convenience stores will charge $11.00 and over for some specialty brands. I don't know the cost of NRT products right now but I know they're not cheap. Last time, 4 years ago Zyban was $180.00 for one month supply. I have no insurance, but this time my rx, was $46.90 for 101 tablets (3 months) generic bupropion (Zyban or Wellbutrin) in low dose 100 mg. So it's costing me less than a carton of cigs to quit!
Here's another way I'm looking at it:
The cost of becoming a slave to your cigarettes, NRT's, lighters, damage to your clothing, property and health etc: masterca*d.
The cost of quitting smoking, going through withdrawl, getting free from the addiction and being healthy: PRICELESS
The first pack I ever bought cost me $0.35 (yes, that's .35 cents people and is it a coincidence that I bought that pack just about 35 years ago?). What I know now, all these years later is that I cannot calculate the cost of smoking just in monetary terms but I sure am looking forward to rewarding myself with all of my savings!
