Is there anything that smoking doesn't affect!! So glad I made the decision to quit!!! My husband is just thrilled and I caught him telling someone on the phone yesterday how proud he was. I have tried several times in the past to quit and failed. This has been by best quit so far and I am determined to make it my last quit!! that is so reassuring about the dentist. I have been avoiding the phone knowing that the call is coming any day to tell me that they have room for me to go get a tooth pulled. And I seem to have the same problem with hooked roots. Just one of my wisdom teeth (and I had 3 pulled) took 5 hours work to pull and 10 days recovery time. Thanks mostly to those darn hooked roots. Thanks to me for quitting and making things easier on myself. serenity2 Sorry that you had to go to all of that bother to find this out, but thankyou, that is very good information. As you say it certainly is another reason to stop. My dentist told me that smoking also causes bone loss, and she showed me what she meant via my xrays... I am glad that you do not have pain... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 73 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,768 Amount Saved: $511 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 16 Mins: 37 Seconds: 40

I had to go and get one of my big back teeth pulled yesterday. I have weird teeth. All of the back ones, the ones that normally have 4 roots, in mine, each of those 4 roots ends in 4 little hooked "claws" that anchor the teeth VERY firmly in the gum! I had one pulled a couple of years ago. it was so hard for the dentist trying to pull it out, that he had to drill the last of the roots out of my gum. The day immediately after the extraction, I was in bed with a hot water bottle and literally, watching the clock until I could take the next load of painkillers. The pain was horrendous. I reckon it was about 4 days before the pain started to subside. I had another one pulled yesterday late in the afternoon and woke up this morning - with NO PAIN AT ALL to speak of! It is incredible. A few years back, my sister had to have a mastectomy followed by recostructive surgery. When she went back for the re-con work, she was a bit alarmed to see that a few of the women in there had a lot of problesm and were clearly in terrible pain. The nurse took her to one side and explained that ALL of the women who had problems, the ones who felt the most pain, the ones who didn't heal well or quickly, were the smokers. because smokers feel more pain than non smokers and don't heal nearly as well or as quickly. Today, I can state quite categorically, that that nurse was right. And I am one very happy woman! Whynot, I did some research before I had to have the tooth pulled and as a result, found and did the following. From 2 days before the extraction is due, take 2 Arnica pills (homeopathic remedy, aids healing and reduces swelling) every 2 hours. Continue the day after the extraction as well. Highly recommend it. And go for it. This has been a dream of an extraction for me compared to any before. It's only taken me a year to get round to it! Whynot, Herbal supplements may provide great therapeutic benefits. However, it is known that natural alternatives are not always safe. Some supplements have been shown to interact with medications, cause allergic reactions or aggravate certain medical conditions. We advise you to consult with your doctor or pharmacist before commencing any alternative therapy. Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

this is truly amazing, awonderful reason to quit in itself. the truth is smoking affects EVERY part of apersons body, and its functions.breathing, toe and fingernails, hair, blood, bones, veins, EVERYTHING. i have these little yellow lines on my big toe nail, and when i stopped smoking one time before, these yellow lines started dissappearing.i know it was from smoking. because when i started back up they started coming back. Thanks for sharing! Yes, once again we find that smoking can hinder recovery in many. Take heed as your bodies repair themselves :) Josie ____________________ The SSC Support Team.
