Your're right about pulling weeds, anxietygirl! I live out in the woods and have over 20 flower beds, so there's always some weeds, some where! I don't know what it is about weed-pulling that makes me feel better. Maybe it's the physical activity or just getting your mind on something else. Sometimes I feel like I'm pulling out something bad in myself as I pull out those nasty weeds! LOL! Good therapy and it makes your yard look nice, too! It also gives you a sense of accomplishment!

You are VERY welcome. I love to try and give advice, "try" being the key word. lol I had my hubby go to the store and buy me garden gloves and that little shovel thing. I am telling you, it works, your muscles and brain are working, I did feel better after just a few minutes. Agoraphobia SUCKS, but I am trying. take care

Thank you!! I too used to have very severe agoraphobia when I was in 6-8th grades...it got somewhat better in high school, and I finally grew out of it I guess. I know the pain it can cause.... You are right of course about getting my brain on something else. Its something I need to do better at doing. There are PLENTY of weeds in my yard LOL! I live out in the middle of nowhere so there's always tons of stuff to do yard-wise. Thank you for your kind words :-) They have helped a lot!

Hi, I don't have panic attacks, I only had 2 in my life. I have anxiety really bad, and agoraphobia. Anyway, I think when you feel one coming on, or think you might have one, go and do something. This might help, I know it's getting colder,(depends where you live) but I would go out in the yard and pull weeds. I was consentrating on that. I would feel much better and wouldn't have to take a xanax. You can wash dishes, vacuum, do a crossword puzzle, arts and crafts. Make sure it's something a little active, I mean just don't sit and watch tv. If your mind is occupied, your panic disappears. I don't mean it always does, or maybe it does. It is different for everyone, just try it, what's the worst that can happen? You don't have an attack. If you do have an attack at least you tried. I hope I helped some, try to do something, anything. take care

First of all I am new, so hello everyone! Please bear with me and let me get some background info out. I have had anxiety and depression since I was 11 (I am now 24). In 1999 I started Effexor ER 225 mg a day. That works wonderful for me. I have never had any problems on it. Right now I am currently in a setback and relapse. This past Monday I got sick, and as everyone knows, illness and taking stuff for your illness (I had a bad cold and took Dayquil and Nyquil) can affect the way your body metabolizes the medication. On Thursday after I got better I had a huge panic attack, and I've been in a relapse ever since. My question is, can I be affecting my own brain chemistry by constantly worrying and panicking? I know that there are certain chemicals released in the brain during attacks, and when I am fairly calm I feel dopey, strange, not all there. I have not missed a dose of medication, so my question is....am I affecting the way my brain metabolizes my medicine by holding on to my negative thoughts and letting the panic control me? PLEASE HELP!!!
