I think that I have finally started to "embrace" my quit. The hardest part for me has been my impatience. I wanted to be "all better" right away. Recently, someone posted a thread that was about that "empty" feeling that sometimes remains even after the physical addiction is gone and about the need to "accept" it as a phase in our journey. Sometimes, I can get discouraged if I look at where I want to be. However, I am so proud when I look at how far I have come. Mosly, I am thankful to be where I am and so lucky to have the support from you guys to get here. Thought that perhaps anybody with, say, a 6 month or so plus quit could contribute to this.. How I got here? 1) Read the posts of 'older' quitters 2) Accepted that it would take some time, perhaps a year or more, to fell that I had truly 'won this battle' 3) Decided that whatever it took was worth the sacrifice 4) Braced myself for the worst 5) Accepted that to give up my quit was my choice. If I picked up a cigarette and smoked it then I would only have myself to blame. Where am I now? Nearly done 11 months. What has it been like? Difficult at times, but it has gradually got better Has it been worth it? Don't ask silly questions. Best thing I have ever done Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 327 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,823 Amount Saved: 2452.5 Life Gained: Days: 53 Hrs: 8 Mins: 43 Seconds: 7

Ah Mr Ed you have hit upon a great idea here and I really wish everyone would stop, smell the roses, and ask why am I here. How did I come to quit smoking and what am I doing about it. The docs told me that I would die (have severe COPD) but I kept on smoking. It took me 5 times at this to succeed. When my adopted grand daughter told me I could not see her new born baby if I still smoked was all it took. Forget my own health and my relationship with my super hero husband, the thought of losing my new great grand daughter was too much so I quit forever and ever. As you know old buddy we are very close to a year quit now and I am for ever thankful to have a good quit friend like you. Keep up your great work Mr Ed you are greatly needed here and well respected. Great post Mr Ed. I quit because of your quit buddy Pete. After 8 days in the hospital on the verge of death, she pulled through. Her doctors told me she had to quit smoking or die so I knew it would be too hard to do if someone else in the home smoked. I made a decision to quit and clean out the house of smoke and I have been smoke free every since. Pete is going on one year now and I am very happy for her and you. Good idea, Mr. Ed. How I got here: I sailed alone for a week or so, then found another site. It was too dogmatic for me, so I then found the SSC. Between this site and my own pure stubbornness, I got here. Where am I now: About two weeks past two years. What it's been like: A magical mystery tour! Full of surprises, ups and downs, scary parts and joyful parts. Has it been worth it: Oh yes!!! Rusty :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/13/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 754 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 21,125 Amount Saved: $2639 Life Gained: Days: 104 Hrs: 23 Mins: 16 Seconds: 48

Bonjour! How I got here ~ I wanted this quit with every single breath I had in my body! Where am I now? ~ Just under two months away from 3 whole years!!! :) What has it been like? ~ Certainly "interesting (!!)" during the first 3-4 months of my quit, but after that, it just got better every single day. Not only that, it's been a huge huge morale booster. Has it been worth it? ~ Absolutely! Keep on keeping on ! Rachel x Two years, ten months, one week, one day, 20 hours, 14 minutes and 30 seconds. 20856 cigarettes not smoked, saving 4,692.79. Life saved: 10 weeks, 2 days, 10 hours, 0 minutes.
