Great post Rusty. Who knows why that "final" quit sticks. I just kept telling myself that as long as I didn't light that next cigarette (or buy it) I was going to make it and I still practice that now. When you want to quit more than you want to smoke you will succeed. It is NOT impossible. Great post Rusty and I am glad you made it here to help myself and so many others here. I think we have to want to quit more than ANYTHING else and it will work. I know its one of the hardest things I have done, but the satisfaction you get far out weighs the torture. Its not easy but its worth it!! How badly do you want to quit? Do you really want to quit? Why? Why is it important? What will you give up to quit? What are you willing to go through to quit? These are among the questions you must ask yourself as you decide whether or not you're going to do this thing. It isn't easy to quit. In fact, it's danged hard. Most of us will say it's one of the hardest things we ever done. I see people who give up a great start to a quit because...they don't know why...or because...they get mad at someone or because...cigarettes magically appeared in their presence...or because...they just didn't want the quit bad enough. I'm not here to judge anybody. Lord knows, I had my share of quits and give-ups over the last 57 years. I'm just here to try to pass this secret along and hoping that someone will listen. You have to want to quit so bad THAT YOU WILL GO THROUGH ANYTHING. You have to want to quit so bad that you will not let anything, any person, or any situation come between you and your quit. To quit, you must understand that you will suffer for a few days, that there is no drug or aid that will take all the cravings away, and that you just have to (who said this?) "close your eyes and think of England." I truly believe that there is no other way. To quit smoking, YOU MUST STOP SMOKING. Thanks all for your comments. It occurs to me that I joined this site a week or more after I quit. Before then, I was a bumbling idiot just pushing through on my own and gritting my teeth and freaking my husband out. Then I came here and read affirmations like -- SMOKING IS NOT AN OPTION FOR ME. I had been saying things like "Golly gee, I would kill for a cigarette" or "Holy Cow, I'm miserable." Once I switched to "SMOKING IS NOT AN OPTION FOR ME", I understood: do anything else but do not smoke! It's like a switch was flipped somewhere in my head. Hello Rusty, A very good Thread, I really didn't think that I had a snow ball chance in hell of quitting when I came to this site, I really didn't, I was actually laughing about it, almost daily, 40 years smoking, and a handful of You are going to tell me to quit, No Way, This website reminded me a little when I went from Grade School into High School, I didn't know what to expect, Didn't know what rooms to go into, what my teacher looked like, whether to take any books, or leave them in my locker, Well when I came on this website I was completely lost, The Administration told me that I had a Glove compartment, And if I got in there, it would tell me every thing I needed to know, Well I piddled around for a Year trying to get into that Glove Compartment, You know, I never did get into my Glove Box, But what really put me on the right track were '''PEOPLE'S STATS,''' I looked at People's Stats Who had a lot more time then me, And I said Yeow, They have been there, and done that, I'm following Them, For 4 out 5 can't be wrong, I'm not taking a short-cut through that Fellar's pasture, and have that Bull chaseing me I'm gonna stay on the beaten path, So here I am, almost 4 years later wondering what actually kept me on the straight and narrow, without lighting up a cigerette, So Yes, It was my ''PEERS''' Who went before me, I just followed along behind them, And Boy I'm sure glad I did, So You see Friends, We follow Each Other like a bunch of Ducks on this website, O'Yeow We do, But You don't think about it that way, You All have a nice weekend, Smokless In Oklahoma :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/10/2003 Smoke-Free Days: 1404 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 42,148 Amount Saved: $6009.12 Life Gained: Days: 319 Hrs: 11 Mins: 34 Seconds: 27
